Return to work

Did/has anyone chosen to go back to work earlier than originally planned? I’m meant to be off until March/April next year but thinking of going back maybe mid January. Did you regret it?

I went back early and I can take Bubs ( I have my own cleaning business) look for my mental health it was good but now Bubs is getting bigger and I sorta wish I did just take the time off because once you are back you are back right? If you can hold off and are all good financially I would just soak it up! How old is Bubs ?

Bubs is 5 months, will be 6 at the end of this month. I feel like I need it for my mental health to just have a day or two actually out of the house and with other adults. I can’t take him to work though but my MIL will have him one day then he will go to daycare

Can you go back one day & then have one day to yourself? (The day he is with your mother in law) then you also get to decide if you want that day off or not

That’s what I’m thinking. My boss is off for two weeks at the moment so I can’t even speak to her about it yet. I was hoping I would be able to start with two days then pick up my third after a month. It’s just that while I’m off they have someone acting up in my position and I don’t want to go back like one day a week and then have my position empty for the rest of the week as once I go back they won’t be able to act up

It's a tough decision to be made and I think there's a lot of assumed social pressure about what it means about you as a mom to go back early but it's okay to want to reconnect with the you that was before your baby arrived. I've known several people who decided to go back early because they needed to reconnect with the version of themselves that existed before their children and none regretted it. My therapist, who specializes in pp care, also said that many of her clients find their mental health improves when they go back to work. I am just starting back, and though I would absolutely rather have every day with my son (4m), I don't regret going back and I cherish my time with him so much more having had to spend time away from him. It helps me to feel like a competent human again. At the end of the day, you have to think about your needs and limits, but know that there is absolutely nothing wrong with choosing to go back early.

Yeah that makes sense, I guess I had the luxury of taking a couple of clients back and just doing the one day to start with. I sometimes do 4 - 5 days and I think that’s why made I am feeling how I am. Just soak up the next 2 weeks and then figure what’s next for you. Will you have time off over the Christmas period anyways?

I didn’t go back early but in hindsight it might have been better for me if I had

@Niki you have no idea how much I needed to hear that. Thank you so much ❤️

@Lana yeah we do close for about two weeks over Christmas. But I need to get him in to daycare first so I know I’ve got a spot secured for him
