My husband is a car guy so I asked what’s his advice. My husband advice is to bring someone with you who’s an expert with cars and do some research on where you’re gonna get/buy the car from.
Don’t give any deposit, unless it’s a dealership
I have experience buying and selling cars online. I've got all my cars from OfferUp. It can be fun once you get the hang of it. ⚡TIPS:⚡ -If you see a car you like never come off as overly eager. -never make an offer on a car you haven't seen in person -never send a deposit -schedule a date and time to go see the car -ask them if they have the pink slip on hand -check if the registration is up to date -if the registration is expired calculate the fees -It's up to you but I never offer what they're asking or I'll never pay full price. -Don't be scared to offer what you want to pay. -always check out the car during the day and check the address before you go to make sure it's not sketchy -ask how many previous owners -VERY IMPORTANT; why are they selling? -You can also run the VIN on Carfax to get a car's history. It'll show you if there's any recalls or accident damage etc. PART 1 *if it's a used cars dealership same stuff apply
PART 2 What to look out for: -mileage, mileage, mileage (The less miles the better) -test the car's functions -check power windows -does car shifts gear smoothly -check the tires, are they balding? -check underneath the car for any leaks, or oil stains on ground -Pop the trunk & hood -Do the locks work -check AC & heat -look under the hood is it clean or dusty?has it been sitting? -look under the hood while the car is running and on park, hear for any funny noises. -check the blinkers -check the brake lights ⚡ Go for a test drive. If it's an individual seller check to see if their ID matches the pink slip. If it's a dealership you usually don't have to worry about this they'll handle most of the paperwork. Hope this helps. Lmk if you have any other questions.
Red flags: -seller cant talk on the phone -seller asking for a deposit before seeing car in person -car turns off, or doesn't stay on -strange noises from engine -check engine light is on -sellers story is inconsistent -expired registration -cars been sitting for awhile (over 3 months) -multiple owners 3+ -over 100k miles You cant go wrong with Toyota they have great engine and last forever Corolla , Camry
Take someone with you, women are forever being scammed. Somehoe, when the guy sees a man with you the dynamics change. Never transfer money unless its a business account (I bought my daughter a car and transferred money over to their business acc and it was ok) I would go to garage and not a private seller. Esp if you're a new driver. Make sure you get a receipt for payment
1. Don’t buy from a private seller, stick to dealerships. 2. Use a company like click-mechanic to inspect the car for you and give you a report so you can then negotiate the price. 3. Don’t ever take out finance from the dealer, if you need money, far better to take a loan out with your bank as the rate will likely be half of what the dealership will charge.
Have them bring the car to your mechanic for a safety (you will pay for the safety but well worth it) if your mechanic says the car is good you pay the person and take the car, if the mechanic reveals it’s not good the seller picks it back up and you’ve saved yourself a major headache. Don’t trust an existing safety because it might be fake/ falsified
Despite what people say about women and cars, we can take charge 💪🏼. The more you do it the more experience you'll get. Personally, I love private sellers, it's hassle free and all you need is cash on hand. Don't go for loan if it's out of your budget also, who wants to hassle with payments unless you're trying to establish credit. But cash on hand one and done deal is easier but no warranty. If you want security you can go with a dealer. Good luck and I hope you find the perfect fit!
@Violeta💕 the cars I’m looking at, the mileage is over 100k for what I can afford. What year would you go down to for a Toyota? I can’t really buy the latest models as they’re out of my budget 😭
I feel like it’s a minefield trying to buy a car especially from the used car sector. I’m also a new driver so haven’t a clue what to look out for or ask for when trying to buy a used car from someone
