Maternity allowance and national insurance

I’m looking at applying for maternity allowance (stoped working mid way through pregnancy so all I’m entitled to) I’ve worked the 13 weeks required in the time frame and earned enough but I didn’t pay national insurance because I didn’t earn enough to have to pay. It says about needing to have paid class 2 NI to qualify? So will I not get anything? If anyone has been in a similar position please can you help explain what you got

Have you checked the gov.uk calculator? https://www.gov.uk/maternity-paternity-pay-leave

Are you self employed or employed?

@Rhiannon checked and it says I’m eligible but it didn’t asked about NI just if I’ve worked a certain number of weeks and earned a certain amount

@N 💞 was employed until recently

The payment of NI is only for self employed people so you don’t need to worry if you’re applying on the basis of having been employed.

You should def get it if you worked/earned the amount in the calculator 🥰

You can pay to cover the NI shortfall.

Thanks all, very helpful! ☺️
