Vomiting with weaning

Hi all; I attempted baby Led weaning and it’s not going well so it’s my 7 month old. He’s great with purées and really soft thing like mash or mushed rasberries.. however anything firmer and he bites off far to much and then chokes and vomits. It’s happened a good few times now and I am really anxious about trying firmer foods. Any advice? Thank you

I’m no expert but my daughter likes bready items. After her dinner tonight once again she sucked down the end of a baguette in to nothing 🤣 she’s also in to pita / thin crumpets. Is he any good with things like toast fingers ??

He just bites off a big chunk and then coughs and chokes and throws up on it 👀 it’s really hard to give him finger foods x

I honestly think it’s time we tried BLW from 6 months and stuff like broccoli was good but she gagged and vomited twice both times she had egg so I thought it was an allergy it’s not. I started giving her the 7 month pouches at 6 months as they’re a bit chunkier which is her main source of food and I give it along side finger foods so strips of toast, broccoli, tonight she had a chip (don’t shoot us) 😂 & she’s since had hard boiled egg and been fine, I personally I think it’s time. Try things like melty sticks or rusk which disintegrate into nothing but can get them used to the texture. Other than that don’t be hard on yourself a lot of babies don’t take to BLW this young just keep trying the gagging and vomiting for me was horrific I felt guilty so now she’s on purées and finger food I’m much more confident, she’s happier, eats 3 meals a day and is not fussy at all she’ll try and eat anything and everything x

Ah sorry / I don’t have a picture - the bread end isn’t really able to be bitten off unless adult sized teeth. As in the end of the baguette. This was the gateway to breads for us. She sucks it down in to something which looks nothing like how it started.

I agree with Amy, my little one was like this for the first 6-8 weeks of weaning. We stopped with the mashed and firm foods and just gave purees. We then introduced things that melted in his mouth, and smushed up foods like bread and fed him it on our fingers. Then suddenly, one day randomly he just started chewing (he doesn't have any teeth yet). Now he can have firmer finger foods and we don't have many chocking incidents at all. I think they just need to get used to food and textures, and learn to mush things in their mouth. X

My son has been gagging if he’s fed anything thick or chunky and we’ve been weaning a good 6 weeks now. It has to be really really blended / pureed. He’s 7 months on the 30th so plan to start introducing slightly chunkier starting in Dec as a week ago he was refusing food with chunks x
