I work in HR and yet to come across a job that 1) permits you to look after a child while working 2) you could actually physically do

What kind of job will you be doing? I work in finance at home 2 full days a week. I’m sorry to tell you there is no way I could have baby with me at home 😞. I wouldn’t be able to concentrate. Is it full days you will be working?

I get to work from home and as much as I’d like to convince myself that I could work and have the baby around (on my own) I’ve got to be honest and say thank god my partner or parents have her whilst I am working… there’s been times where I’ve thought oh I could have her here, you know playing with her toys etc when I don’t have any meetings but honestly, I wouldn’t really struggle to get anything done on the basis that there’s always something she ultimately wants or needs from me! Don’t get me wrong, if my partner is off work… it’s all good as he will watch her, take her in another room or go for a walk but the fact she’s crawling / walking and into pretty much everything right now… well let’s just say I already feel like I’ve got to have eyes at the back of my head on a normal day. The pressure of then having to work as well is personally a no go for me as it just doesn’t seem to work unfortunately!

Personally I don’t think it can work. I did it for one day and I’ll never do it again. I can’t imagine what job would make it feasible because it essentially means you’re trying to do two full time jobs at once - not only would you struggle to give your LO the best care, you also would struggle to concentrate on completing the work properly then on top of it you’d be absolutely knackered. I’m so sorry I would love to give a positive story and if you do find it works please do share! x

I have done it on the odd occasion and it’s really not easy, lucky that I can do it in an emergency but wouldn’t choose it as I find it stressful.

I’m sorry, I know you asked for positive stories and I hate to pile on but I don’t think you’d be able to do any job well, especially with our babies at the age they are now. Are you able to find something at the weekends or evenings instead? That’s how I manage it

I work from home full time, LO was sent home from nursery one day. He was ok and I tried to work but it was impossible. Sorry to say but even though I’m well practiced in working from home, no way I could do my job properly, or look after LO properly if he was also home. And most companies don’t allow it x
