Cervical Checks

Has anyone had a cervical check yet? I'm 36 weeks and my doctor does a weekly cervical check starting tomorrow. I'm nervous.. is it painful? Does it feel much different from the annual routine when they feel your ovaries? Is anyone rejecting cervical checks until labor?

I made 36 weeks today, Due Jan 6th it was not painful at least for me .. when you say feel for ovaries are you referring to a pap-smear ?

You can refuse to do cervical checks i definitely will wish I did with my first she wouldn't have come early if I did

I found them painful. I will be refusing them until necessary. It really doesn't give u any information and I find that it causes unnecessary anxiety in some moms.

I haven't had mine yet, as I'm only 32 weeks, but I'm on pregnancy #4, but I've never had a painful cervical check with my other 3. The only discomfort I had was with my last one when the doctor scraped my membranes, but that was with my permission at my 40 week appt in hopes to start labor naturally before my induction date the following week.

I found them painful cause I’m swollen down below. My doctor does them weekly now also unless I deny them.

I denied them with my first and will with my second until I’m actively in labor

Had one today at 35+4. Not painful at all for me. Had one a little earlier on as well due to some severe abdominal pain. That one didn’t hurt either. I think it just depends on the person.

Definitely not necessary until labor, and even then, they aren’t an accurate indicator of how quickly you’re progressing. They can also introduce bacteria and cause infection, so you are absolutely within your right to refuse them if you want.

I had one last week when we discussed induction for next week it was painful and I had pain lingering all day and spotting after

I haven’t had mine this pregnancy yet, but with my last pregnancy I cried every time 😅 But like, I’m super sensitive down there during my third trimester. So I think it really just depends on how your body is handling everything!

My dr only checks if I have a concern. He has checked the last 3 weeks as I have been having pain and feeling contractions. And yesterday having called about finding blood they most likely will check since I was already 80% effaced and 2cm dilated when they checked last week. The pain from it is dependent on who is doing the exam. I find that the Dr being a male doesn’t put so much pressure when doing the exam but a female Dr or nurse practitioner puts more force behind it
