Is this a weird thing to do? šŸ¤”

My son has a terrible cold. Heā€™s also getting his molars through šŸ™ƒ so heā€™s eating very little and all he does want to eat is yogurt etc. Iā€™ve made him a green juice type thing? Just some boiling water, bone broth, then blended peas and broccoli. Iā€™m going to try to give it to him in a bottle as itā€™s very thin and Iā€™m hoping some of it will go down! Is that weird? It just feels strange and I canā€™t put my finger on why šŸ˜‚

No I think thatā€™s genius!

So clever! Let us know if he drinks it šŸ˜Š

No! Not at all! My little one is so poorly with RSV, if I could get any form of nutrients into him like this, I absolutely would!!

Great idea! Veggie juices and broths are my go to when sick!

Please donā€™t put anything in a bottle other than milk. You havenā€™t said how old he is but Iā€™m guessing over weaning age of six months so maybe thicken it with potato starch and make him a soup. This is too dangerous.

@Laura Byrne sorry, why is it dangerous?

@Harriet he drank some! Iā€™m counting anything as a win at this point

@Tara itā€™s a choking risk. The fact he has a cold means youā€™re giving him antibodies and will for another week after heā€™s better. Thatā€™s all you need. Even if he doesnā€™t eat his milk will change to compensate.

@Laura Byrne thatā€™s so interesting, even if itā€™s the consistency of water?

@Laura Byrne thatā€™s presuming mum is breastfeeding though? Iā€™m confused re choking risk too if itā€™s the same consistency as milk šŸ¤”

@Alice with the COL I know very few people not feeding to term these days. I hate breastfeeding but canā€™t afford to feed the triplets if I donā€™t. Anything other than milk in a bottle is a choking risk. It might seem like the same consistency but wonā€™t be. There will be solids. Also itā€™ll be more nutritious as a meal anyway by adding starch

That is actually such a good idea, especially if itā€™s like water with no lumps and bits in it that baby could choke on. I might do that for my little girl as sheā€™s full of cold and not 100% at the moment. Did you strain it or anything to get the bits out of it?x

@Laura Byrne What do you mean by feeding to term? Not everyone is able to breastfeed their babies. I wasnā€™t able to breastfeed as my milk never came in and I think this is a genius idea especially if itā€™s the consistency of juice thatā€™s smooth with no bits in it?

Feeding to term is when you feed till the children make the informed decision to stop. As I said with COL not many can afford to not feed themselves and thereā€™s a lot of pressure to keep going. If I could stop I would. Nearly 14mths of feeding three at once and itā€™s not nice. But itā€™s not for me. Also with milk now being off limits thereā€™s nothing else they can drink.

@Julia I boiled all the veg with some bone broth, then put into my blender and strained it ā˜ŗļø

Iā€™m not sure how this got onto the topic of breastfeeding but thanks for the feedback guys! He had some and Iā€™m just glad Iā€™m getting anything other than yogurt into him.

If it makes you feel better @Tara I was speaking to a paediatric nurse earlier on a 111 call back, and I had seen your post, and when discussing my little one being dehydrated at the moment I asked if giving him a broth was okay as heā€™s refusing fluids and she said yes, absolutely, ā€œhowever you can get them into himā€ she suggested I could syringe it, and try it in a variety of different bottles or cups. As you said, itā€™s thin like water. There is no risk of choking if thereā€™s no bits that can be choked on.

@Chloe aww thank you! Yeah Iā€™m hoping blending it and then straining it got rid of all the bits. It is also through a size 1 teet as my son is still BF so we never sized up so Iā€™m hoping nothing can get through that either šŸ˜… hope your little one is doing ok! RSV is horrible to deal with!

@Tara Iā€™ll be definitely doing that for my little girl as sheā€™s completely under the weather currently with a nasty cold and chest x

I would 100% do this with my 12m old if he struggled - you know your baby and whether he can handle the consistency. Don't overthink it tbh. Bone broth super good for him!

Bloody brilliant idea!

Juice the vegetables and dilute it with coconut water
