Nursery funding on MAT LEAVE

Hi guys, If I were to be pregnant with my second child would my first child still qualify for nursery funding while I am on MAT LEAVE. I can't find any guidance on this. Thank you x

I believe so x

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/education/5124534-30-hours-free-childcare-and-on-maternity this thread seems to think you can! According to the women going through it when you reenroll each three months you just select you won’t be earning that much weekly and then select that you are on mat leave and they give you the code anyway

If youre classed as employed then of course! If you're on maternity leave then you're still an employee. We used the tax free childcare for our first while I was on maternity leave with our second.

@Lor I'm so confused by it. I really want to know the answer to this. My husband thinks we can't. I will keep researching and see. 👍

@Topaz it's very simple! If you're both employed (including maternity leave) and you meet the other criteria then you'll be eligible.

@Caroline you mention tax free childcare though. Is this with the new system of the 15 hours given? X

@Topaz tax free childcare is a separate thing but broadly the same rules apply and you can use them with the funded hours.

HR professional here. Whilst you’re on mat leave your employment rights and status remain the same (excluding salary) so yes; any entitlements you have whilst working remains the same on mat leave including access to tax free childcare and funded hours.

Thank you everyone. 😁

I was wondering this as I couldn't claim my first until I was back off maternity leave even though he would have been entitled to it earlier than when he got it! Due second in May so I'm hoping so

Yes, I returned to work after my fist in Summer 2022 and when off again just over a year later - I was still entitled to tax free childcare and 15hrs funding (when it kicked in from April this year).
