My toddler wakes up before all of us and takes the sweets that are in the fridge

How should I solve this one? I’m not a fan of putting a lock in the fridge, it feels icky to me. I can try to hide but it’s Christmas so there’s cookies, cake, and fudge in there. I suggested a gate for the kitchen but my husband is certain that our 3 year old will climb over it. This is the third day he did this. Now he’s running around the house all wacked out from the sugar

i have child locks on my fridge and that, works a bloody treat x

Close his bedroom door?

You need to make it so he can't get out of his baby proof room before you wake up. And you have to wake up. Before he decides to climb a dresser, or pull down a tv.

You don't have to use the fridge lock all the time. It can just be at night, for safety. 🙂

Top shelf he cant reach. Or put it in an opaque tub

If your toddler is like mine a gate isn't the safest choice. I'm working hard to teach my son when he is allowed to open the gate because its better then him climbing it. I would use some sort of lock on the fridge or bedroom door so you can control when access is given until learned, or I've seen little lock boxes that you can put in your fridge for things you don't want kids getting into. Healthy snacks on the counter in plain sight may also help once there arent a bunch of Christmas treats.

I would add the fridge lock now. Since he doesn’t listen, no sense in having him destroy all the holiday food you spent so much time making! You can take it off after the holidays if you want and work with him on listening. Or else a door lock/gate so he can’t get out of his room in the first place.

They have lock boxes for fridges. People use them for sweets and medicine that needs to be refrigerated. https://www.amazon.com/iBune-Medicine-Container-Medication-Refrigerator/dp/B09MYX31V6/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?crid=1PV2YZWD3KSWY&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.6i9IMqOc7L6VCCAsPifCJ4y5iHSA9kGwDg7fqETAnk6ueNpuTnbm9btq9QcZJgrqN7io76WBhv-Fy1oAOs903aGY6cZElDlA4BDrCIm9ilu6dECwqxyM80g9Faf7H4X5NFtS7RZVNC4qivpJc1-L31OezQ3lu3mu15Y_fWG48FGy8-X5I_aTLSRTFDKBjg_JvzDDHRrQg5yObZVRfIiuLw.ttCXoVZ3aOTZqdPDoMY-k7FxlNIehVuCqvXFmSZSC68&dib_tag=se&keywords=fridge+lock+box&qid=1735078663&sprefix=fridge+lock+box%2Caps%2C346&sr=8-4

Could you put a clip lock on and take it off during the day ? I know locks aren’t nice but better than your child choking unsupervised ( god forbid that ever happens) x
