Funded hours

Baby boy will turn 9 months at the end of the month and he starts nursery at the beginning of May, I start work a week later. When do I apply for the funded hours in order to use them when baby starts. As I’ve seen few post where I have to wait 30 days before returning to work before I apply. But if that’s the case would I be able to use the funded hours when baby starts? Any advice would be appreciated 😌

Apply as soon as possible, so you know what you’re entitled for. Apply for working parent one so you can get your child to be a Nursery full time so you don’t have to pay.

Not sure if it lets you apply for working parents 15 hours before he is 9 months old. But you definitely can and should set up the tax free childcare account. They are on the same account anyway. Once he is 9 months get the funding code asap and give it to the nursery as it will allow you to have the funding from when the summer term starts (end April). Not sure about the 30 days thing. As I could still use the funding & tax free childcare for my first child when on maternity leave with my 2nd. The 15 hours often gives you one day free a week in an all year setting. Or two days in a term time setting.

@Nana I tried but it doesn’t seem to be working, what do you mean the “working parent one”? This code thing is so confusing but Thank you Nana!

@Tiffany yes that’s what I thought, he will be 9 months in 2 and a half weeks, so I ll make sure I sort out the code on that day. I’m on UC so I don’t think I can be on both so I wanted to just stick with the free childcare account. Thank you Tiffany 🙏🏾

If you’re on UC you have to pay for it and send the invoice and receipt of payment and they will pay you back. If you go on report changes it will show Childcare cost.

@Nana yes that’s what I think I’m going to do, I think I can also apply the childcare code whilst paying as well.

@Omoezi if you go on the Childcare choices website, they will tell you exactly what you’re entitled to and when to apply for your circumstances 😊

You can apply 30 days before you start work and the code issued same day, then email it to the nursery. I provided the code to the nursery 2-3 weeks before my son started which was fine. So you shouldn’t have any issues.

@Claire thank you!

@Idil great thank you!
