Congested and struggling to breathe for weeks

My first never got ill untill he started nursery so this is all very new to me. My 13 week old has been congested for going on 5 weeks now. He hasn’t had a temperature just a blocked nose. In the beginning weeks he had a cough but that has gone now. I was using saline spray, nose frida and him in the bathroom for steam and when he turned 12 weeks, I started using baby olbas oil and the calpol plug in but nothing seems to be working. Is anyone else going through this? It’s really affecting his sleep as he’s struggling to breathe and getting understandably frustrated? Is there anything that GP can do?

It sounds like you’ve been doing everything you can to help, but since the congestion has lasted 5 weeks and is affecting his sleep, it’s a good idea to see the GP. They can check for things like allergies, a lingering virus, or reflux, and might recommend additional treatments. ! Hope he gets better soon x

I’m in exactly the same situation! My little girl is also 13 weeks & has been congested since Christmas. I’m thinking of booking a GP just so they can check her. Not sure if they can do anything but just feel so bad for her especially at night time.

My LG got really congested at 3 weeks old and it lasted for weeks so I kept pushing the GP for a reason, eventually took her to urgent care and found out she has CMPA, so it could be an allergy for your LO.

@Gabrielle yeah night time is so bad 😭😭

@Kristina awwww! Did she have any other symptoms? And how did they test for CMPA?

we have had this too since birth. would love to know if you get an answer. im getting nowhere but some have suggested silent reflux which we are trying gaviscon for

Update: GP said she’s got upper respiratory tract infection & prescribed her with some antibiotics. I’m hoping it does help resolve it

A rash all over her cheeks and chest which I initially thought was baby acne and her skin went super dry. She is combo fed so they suggested I cut out dairy from my diet and they prescribed a milk free formula. Within 3 days the rash had reduced and in 2 weeks had gone altogether. The congestion took a bit longer to clear up but it did eventually

Going through this too. Called GP today they asked us to come in even though appointments were filled for the day (they reserve emergency appointments and babies are a priority). Checked lungs and ears all seemed clear and was told it's probably and allergy to something he'll grow out of. Been prescribed liquid antihistamine to try for 5 days xxx

@Gabrielle awwww bless her. I hope it all clears up after the antibiotics xx
