Kit day payment - HR help

Hey, so my company is little and reasonably new. And male dominated. Which means I'm the first person to ever go on maternity leave. So there wasn't an employee handbook, let alone a maternity policy for me to refer to. I've read online pay for kit days is agreed in advance. This was never done. I worked two kit days (both half days 4ish hours). They paid me 8 hours for both days. Is this correct? A mum friend of mine mentioned that I should get paid two full days pay, regardless of how long I was in. I'm happy to question it but just want to make sure I'm not mistaken. Thanks xx

My work was based on hours worked not the full day. However I could only work 10 days. Regardless of whether they were full days. So if I worked 2 hours on a day that’s one day lost. So I got confused and thought I got paid the full day for 2 hours work but unfortunately wasn’t that lucky 🤣 hope that helps x

Mine work place is the same as @Vanessa

My KIT days are not paid by hour, and I was paid for a day worked, even though on some of my 10 KIT days I did 4h, others 6, others more.

Mine was the same as @Vickiee

My works policy was full days pay regardless of time worked x

Ohh okay, so it sounds like there are no consistent rules. Between hourly or daily... It's just dependent on the work place?

Depends on your employers policy. Mine paid me for hours worked on that day, even though I am salary paid off of maternity x

Unfortunately the legislation doesnt state how KIT days should be paid (which is crap!) I work in HR and in my company it is per hour and thats how it usually seems to be done- we have to send through the hours worked to payroll- although I dont know a single manager who didnt round up 4-5 hours to 7.5… The lack of policies etc doesnt help you much nor the fact no one else has been through this. But no your employee hasnt done anything wrong so dont question it lol. If anything, I think more managers would only pay per hour if they knew this allowed- the fact that its called a KIT day works in our favour as most people think its a day regardless

My KIT day pay was paid hourly. Everywhere is different!

Yes it can be. Some places pay the full day no matter what hours you work. Some will just pay the hours you work and sometimes not even at your normal rate. I work in HR x

Thanks for all the replies ladies
