I’ve figured that a part time job is the best idea for going back to work to be honest. I wouldn’t be able to live off my old full time wage it wouldn’t even cover bills food shopping rent etc… if you work part time the government still pays you benefits and you are eligible for the extra free nursery hours. Some people say that it’s working the system, and it is. Single mums have to because the system isn’t set up for us! I will be going back to education and starting uni in October which is paid for for me. If it wasn’t I owlet be doing it. But it makes the most sense and until then job wise I will be working part time and also claiming what I can still! For nursery do you have any family members or friends u trust and can pick up your baby? xx
I’ve had to reduce my hours at work so I can do nursery drop offs and pick ups. My LO is at nursery 8-5 and I work 9-4 and then I have one day off with him in the week. It has massively cut my salary down but even with that, I’m still seen to be “earning too much” for universal credit support. So I use the gov tax free account and the free hours to help with nursery fees. I have no idea what I’m going to do when LO is in school with the hours and holidays 😅
I feel you the whole benefit system is broken! Before my babies I was a dinner lady - i didn't love it however it was great for holidays etc for my eldest! After my 2nd was born prem at 24wks.....by the time we brought him home .... it was time to go bk.....I wasn't ready and I quit and the funny thing is , had I stayed at that job I wouldn't of got any of my earnings as uc would have taken them off me..... this benefit cap also doesn't hurt....honestly it's just a shame.... of you work or don't work! Now I have a 1yr old aswell I'm ready for it but as you say how.... I feel it's not possible....
