Technically BLW means they should be eating the same as you. Anything you eat should be fine as long as things are cut to age appropriate sizes. last night we had tempeh chilli with jacket potato :)

Can eat the same as you

Doss your little one have iron drops?

@Emmo I’ve been told to avoid processed ?? I have fake chicken and sausages etc with probably 4-5 of my meals a week.

@Steamtrane Family no

@Steamtrane Family so stir dry with “ChikN”, quorn bolognaise, “lamb” kofta, chickN Kiev?

Tempeh isn't processed, it's whole soy beans, tofu too.

Yes everything can be ground up and blended or sliced up depending on age of your baby :)

How old is baby?

I recommend iron drops

@Emmo I didnt say that.

@Steamtrane Family 10 months

Why is this group so judgey ?? Asking for tips not put downs.

I'm not being judgy I'm just recommending things and said everything can be ground up what you eat 🙂

@Steamtrane Family sorry that wasn’t aimed at you. Being told I need to eat more whole foods - baby can eat what I eat - this is all new - I’m a FTM. Just want some kindness.

OP, eat what you eat! Ignore the comments about eating ‘more whole foods’. Yes baby can eat what you eat. I’d say just within moderation. If you eat veggie sausages (I’m assuming that’s what they are?), then give baby some, the same with the fake chicken. The world has got to hung up on ‘processed’ foods but sometimes people need to chill out. My kids eat processed foods, but also eat healthy and they’re both thriving. There’s some good Instagram baby food accounts - yummy_little_belly is one I really like! Have a little search and find some inspo through there ☺️

That's okay completely understand, I had my first baby two years ago too, it's all new, try to enjoy it and not worry what others think ❤️

@Emily thank you 😘😘

@Steamtrane Family 😘😘

Baby can eat what you eat? Why is that judgey? Just recommending they wouldn't have faux meat every meal, still fine generally though. But the reason we say they can eat what you eat is because you don't need to put in extra effort to make them specific foods. Try the Solid Starts app, it suggests how to prepare the foods, you didn't say how old baby is, but from 6 months they can have soft finger foods, toasted bread, lumpy stuff etc. The app also has recipes, but you have to pay for those, but the free version still allows you to see how best to prepare stuff for each age.

My baby is vegan and eats what i eat, I try to add in some lentils etc as alternatives but my husband (not vegan) loves the taste of fake meats. Little one loves a vegan sausage when we have them. If you're concerned, you could always cook what you usually cook and try to double up on the veg. This is not indicative of how we eat as a family but we're all sick so last night we did chips, beans and vegan sausage (ran out for me so I had to have burger). The beans went down well, she's not big into potato and the sausage was gone within seconds, but I also whacked on some frozen veg as I felt bad it wasn't as balanced as I usually do. There's a wonderful book called How to Wean Your Baby and it's got lots of vegetarian meals in there and options of how to make the meal vegetarian if it's not already! Don't panic about baby eating processed foods, just try to make sure they're getting their 5 a day (a bit hard at this age) offered to them and offer different types of beans throughout the week if you can.

It's a proper mine field at this stage, but at the end of the day, as long as you're not overdoing it on the added salt intake, baby can eat whatever you do! X

@Charleigh thank you so much. Baby is a BIG eater - loves food like mum and she’s really in to veggies which is awesome 🥒🥕🥬🥦

I BLW and she just had what I have, I eat a lot of legumes which baby has, like lentils and black beans, etc. I just squish them. I saw baby can have tofu, so she enjoys that also. But, her dad eats meat, so occasionally, if he has lean meat, he saves some for her. She isn't vegge in that sense, but I make the majority of the meals so she has more vegge. For lunch it can be various omlette recipes with different vege in it, pancakes and avocado, left over dinner (quite common), toast and fruit, I sometimes batch cook vege chic pea pies which i freeze, vegetable muffins, you can use a muffin tin to also make mini omelette with different vege in each section, my baby does eat cheese but there are a lot of cheese recipes too :)!

@Annalise thank you so much / some ideas here for me for sure 🥕🥒

I'm vegetarian and while my son and husband aren't we do share a lot of meals. Pasta with tomato veggie sauce, raviolis, veggie potstickers, fake chicken nuggets, quesadillas, homemade veggie fried rice, loves tofu. When he was an infant I enjoyed making veggie puree sometimes with quinoa, oats or cheese mixed in as well as solid strips of veggies, fritters and pancakes too :)

@Chela you’re making my hungry 🤤 What’s a potsticker please??

Absolutely ignore the judgey comments. There seems to be a few people on here that are known to be repeatedly rude and patronising! We’ve just started weaning yesterday so I’m on much the same journey as you - lots of accounts on Instagram and I’ve downloaded both solid starts and my little food critic apps for some inspiration. I see loads of amazing meals just by adding a few ingredients to fruit and veg to make all sorts from pancakes to pasta to pinwheels. I think I’ll be taking tips for my own dinners soon! 😂

@Cara I didn't realise my little food critic was an app, I had seen someone mention it and thought that's what they were calling their baby 🤣

@Cara thank you so much. Everyone started once / whether you’re in to cooking or not - so a little less bitterness would go down a lot nicer in my books 🩷

I try and batch cook to save time so you can do veggie fried rice with/out egg and any combination of veg. If I'm making with egg i don't freeze as I don't like how it tastes defrosted 😖 Also casserole/Veggie bake so your base is a cheese or tomato sauce(or just use dolmio or passata) and then add any veg you want. You can add pasta(pre boiled but al dente), orzo. Last time I did leeks, butter beans, broccoli spinach and baby loved it - probably cos it was cheesey lol! Also quick lunch dinner is quesadillas with Wraps- cheese on the bottom so it glues any veg so peppers, black beans, sweetcorn, mushrooms, spinach A little more cheese & toast in a frying pan. These also freeze well or you can keep in fridge for a quick lunch on the go. Veggie hot pots - so your base is onions, garlic then add in passata or tin chopped tomato & any veggies. This freezes really well & goes really great with rice or sometimes I just give my LO bread to dip in like a stew. I know it can be stressful but have fun with it x

They're also called: gyoza or dumplings!

@Chela never heard of this word!

@Rae so many here! We’ll be over for lunch 🙃

I think pot stickers are usually gyoza which have been fried, because they stick to the pan 😀

Where are you based 😊

@Rae 🤣 London 🙋🏾‍♀️

@Rae 🤣 London 🙋🏾‍♀️

My little one loves things like lentil and sweet potato so I make curry or soup with that as core ingredients and mix it up with different veggies ( peas, peppers, courgettes) and spices. He also likes veggie chilli with kidney beans. You can switch up the texture but chopping veggies smaller and/or cooking longer. I also love to have that for my own lunches now with my portion having lord spice and salt 😊

@Luba thank you 🥣

I'm in Brixton! DM me we should meet up for a coffee/playdate for the Littles x
