Any advice please
My job is at risk off redundancy and I'm 6 weeks pregnant. Very early I know but I called Maternity Allowance yesterday to see if I would be entitled to that if I was made redundant. Turns out I am but she kept saying don't tell them till you're 15 weeks cos they'll get rid of you before that if they know so protect yourself. If you are still with them after 15 weeks they have to still give you SMP if you're made redundant.
Now I don't know if it's best to tell them or not! I work part time and on minimum wage so there is nothing in it between MA and SMP anyway!
I get enhanced maternity pay so in your situation I would have made them aware asap to protect myself a little from the redundancies. There is a bit of a difference between SMP and MA in that you get 90% salary for 6 weeks with SMP assuming that's more than the MA amount. So it might be worth holding on!
