Should I give his birthday gifts on his birthday or at his party?

My son turns three tomorrow! Should I give him his gifts tomorrow, on his actual birthday? Or should I wait till his party on the 8th? A few friends are coming over, so I'm sure he will have a couple things to open from them...but not sure if I should give him all our gifts now? Split them? What would you do? I'm leaning towards giving them all tomorrow because a lot of people don't actually like sitting around watching a kid open their gifts (except the one they gifted)...but thoughts? What do you prefer when you go to parties?

I think, for a kids party especially at 3...it's hard to expect them to sit and open all the gifts and harder for the parents to have their kids remain excited throughout that. We let her open gifts on her birthday. All of them, but one, in the morning after breakfast. And then one during dinner. Usually that one is a special gift or a "big gift". Then for the party we plan to just let her open them at home this year since the party is at a park.

My baby turns 2 tomorrow! I have small gifts for tomorrow and the big ones for his party

I don’t like the idea of opening gifts at a party so I would give him the gifts on his birthday.

@Haley 💚 that's what I'm thinking! Also, this might sound awful, but I fear if he opens them at his party, the other kids will want to play with them 🫣 he's not quite at the age where he's willing to share...

@Grace It makes sense for you since you have children attending. For us, our “party” is just family. All adults so for us it’s simple to let him open his gifts after cake if there’s time. If not he can open them Sunday when he wakes up Last year for his first birthday, my sister got him a shopping cart and that’s all he cared about lol I’m probably going to be the one to open his gifts again anyway. Just like Christmas. He just doesn’t have a care in the world

Only open gifts people bring at the party, and even then only if they seem excited to watch him open it. Kids parties are chaos already, no need to add more to it! Also on gift bags… My husband and I have been reusing gift bags to each other our whole relationship, we have some that are 10+ years old 😂😂

My daughter just recently turned 3. Her bday party was supposed to be the day before her actual birthday but we had to push it back to the following weekend. We had gotten her an art easel and a book, so we gave her the easel on her birthday and the book at the party.

We do family and guests gifts on party. And gifts from US on their bday if different dates.

Birthday always, even if the party was first, presents always on the actual birthday. If he gets any gifts at the party, he can open them that day when we get home.

I never open gifts in front of the giver (unless it's my parents/brother/husband). I always feel super awkward as I'm not very good at showing excitement even if i love the gift 🤣 It's a running joke in my family that i always look overwhelmed haha. So my daughter would open them at home rather than putting pressure on her to open them in a time frame/in front of people xx

@Grace im stealing the reusing bags idea 😂

@Victoria it's like recycling but you actually know it gets recycled year after year instead of ending up in a landfill 😂

@Grace true! I always keep the christmas bags every year, plus its not like the kiddos even remember what the bags were a year ago 😂

@Victoria to be fair, I don't even remember the bags and am always surprised by how many I have 😂😂
