Introducing solids.

Hello there, has anyone experienced trouble introducing certain foods to their babies? My twins are 4 months and the pediatrician told me I can introduce solids to one, but to wait a little if I want for the one with the milk protein allergy as he was having some trouble still a month ago until he finally got on a formula that’s not making him poop blood, she told me if I see him hungry like formula is not filling him up then to start slowly to see how he react, I gave him pear and apple purées and he was all good but today I gave him greebeans and after an hour he was screaming and very gassy, he was like that for a good 5 hours then back to normal, so I know it was the food, I’ll be calling the doctor tomorrow but just wanted to know if that’s happened to anyone else? How did you introduced the solids and how the allergy affect them at the time of eating.

4m is very early to introduce solids. Most advice is to wait until 6m, so I wouldn't rush or worry too much. It sounds like your little one isn't ready and their tummy and guts need time to heal. Unless there is a medical reason to wean them early, personally, I would wait until 6m and start them both at once.

Is weight an issue? If not id just wait a bit. I started my little one who has cmpa at 6 months he wasnt ready then, waited a week or so and then he was mad for it. A week is a long time in baby world so I'd leave it a week or so, or if you can until 6mo and try again- if I say weight isn't an issue.

It isn’t recommended to give solids before 6 months, as the gut is not mature enough to digest them yet. Especially if the gut is damaged from allergy… it can lead to developing further food allergies

@Emelie the pediatrician said it’s ok at 4 months as long as they showing the signs, I did with all my other kids but I guess him because of the allergy is different

@Sophie he is weight is good he has no issues other than the allergy so far and he was born full term. I guess I’ll wait to 6m to be sure

@Julie just seems like your dr is giving quite outdated advice. Maybe do your own research, as here in the UK,I would be surprised if a dr recommended early weaning after a recent-ish gut damage incident. Especially if your twins’ were born early and their corrected age is even lower than 4 m? Gut inflammation due to allergy makes the intestine leaky and immune system is in overdrive, so food particles can come in contact with the blood supply, which is ready to attack- and hence, you can develop immune responses to harmless food. If you do decide to push on with this, work on gut healing & consider using a probiotic, then introduce low histamine and easily digestible foods (no allergens, high vit-C acidic fruits, nightshade vegetables etc) first until his tummy is happy

@Emelie he was born full term but here in USA I believe most pediatricians tell you to start at 4 months, I have 2 other kids besides the twins oldest is 14 and both different doctors and time pushed for solids at 4m without issues, but you’re right due to his recent stomach problems I should’ve waited and do some research as I’m not familiar with any of these, she did recommend to wait though but at the end told me it was my decision so I ran with that because of me previous experiences. Thanks for educating me a little in it.
