When to put the plate on the tray?

Hi, FTM here and my baby is almost 9 months and is a big foodie! So far, we've always put his food directly onto the highchair tray one at a time so that he can pick it up and feed himself or pre loaded a spoon but I was wondering roughly what age I can put the plate in front of him? I tried it last night and he either just tried to shove lots of food in his mouth at the same time or wanted to pick up the plate 😅

We did from the start. It’s good for them to learn how much they should put in their mouth. And definitely use suction plates!😂

Many people do it right from the start, it's personal choice

Definitely personal choice. I found my kid got overwhelmed with too much food in front of him at the start so also just put a few bits on his tray at a time. Can't remember how old when he got the plate but it was when he started ignoring the food on his tray and reaching for the plates on the table. Was under 1 year but can't remember better than that

like @ 10 months i take out her portion in another plate and just add it to her plate on her tray little by little. her plate has suction in the bottom for when she tries to yank it off lol the only thing she hurls is the water bottle. need to find one of those silicon strings to attach it to so it won’t hit the floor lol

Tried from the start. It’s only now at 9.5 that she’s started ripping the suction plate off. If he’s 9 months they usually start shovelling food in at this age, you should start preparing it slightly different (check solid starts app) but basically everything should be cut into tiny bite size pieces. Think the size of a pea but squished. This has worked wonders for us, no gagging and actually eating more. Her pincer grasp has developed so much x
