Fussy eater at 9 months

Is it normal for a 9 month old to completely refuse many foods? My little boy won't even pick up most foods, let alone try them. There's a few safe foods like toast, baby Crisps and oatcakes which he will always eat though, but he won't try new textures, most fruits and veg unless pureed. Should I be worried?

Have you tried avocado mashed with plain coconut yoghurt? Was a winner with mine when she was going through fussy stages around that age. She just loved avocado off a spoon back then and now more so as she’s older as finger food. But I still mash it sometimes and mix it with Sainsburys deboned deskinned sardines tins (ones in olive oil) as lowest salt content to other tins. And she loves it with kefir yoghurt and mash avocado Or mash avocado, with mash banana and mashed cooked egg maybe? Squished Blueberries? My girl can eat these all day long 😵‍💫 But I find if she’s being fussy on a day / meal, I dab a bit of plain coconut yoghurt on her lips and she then tastes it and then goes and wants it so I slather it on the food I’ve made for her so if she wants the coconut yoghurt she’s gotta have what’s stuck to it 😆 Or if being fussy and having a paddy while eating I’ll sprinkle some grated cheese on her plate / high chair tray. Always a winner. Have you tried cheesy omelette strips?

i think my girl has a problem mainly with textures, she won’t pick up anything that’s soft, slippery, etc. so most fruit and veg, i think it’s very normal as the foods you mentioned always stay the same in terms of texture and taste, whereas strawberries for example can be tangy, sour or sweet and each one tastes different if you get what i mean, but going back to my original point for my daughter at least it’s down to texture what she will or won’t eat, maybe it’s the same for your boy? i wouldn’t be too worried now as food is for exploring x

Don’t be worried, very normal! Just keep offering those foods. It’s a big texture thing for them and everything tastes so wildly different. You’re so fresh into weaning still. He will get there x

My girl was the same and something actually just flicked a switch around 9-10 months. The main difference we did, was started serving the same meals and eating together and she ended up becoming a foodie. Do you give him what you’re eating? Slow cookers were the winner for us too, the meat was nice and soft and she devoured it.

@Emma thank you for the ideas, I will give those a try! Much appreciated x
