I didn't deliver at Kaiser, but I know some hospital nurses will assist but normally it's the parents who with dress the baby. As for first clean up, I'm not sure what you mean by that. But a nurse will bath your baby after 12 hours of being born. Diaper changes, that's the parents. If you a ftm, you can ask for help and they will show you how to properly change a diaper.
In my experience Kaiser doesn’t bathe newborns, they said it’s no longer recommended, it’s bad for baby’s skin. As for diaper change, nurses can help but they will teach you how to do it so they won’t be doing it 100% they’ll do some in the beginning and encourage you to do it later. Same with burping, soothing etc. they’ll teach you how to breastfeed which is probably every 1-2 hours as needed
Will they clean the baby after birth? I know the parents bathe the baby after few weeks, but how about cleaning up the baby?
Cleaning like the fluids and all that they rub the baby with a towel the second baby is in your chest/out of cesarean. Kaiser offers a sponge bath because you can't wet the umbilical cord, but it isn't recommended any longer because it dries out the skin so it might be by request only. You can get gentle sponges for newborn baths on Amazon or ask for them from kaiser before you leave and you don't ever submerge the baby until after the umbilical cord falls off between 1 and 3 weeks. You can mostly get away with just sponging baby's neck folds and butt every other day until then
Okay! So after the nurses clean the fluids , the parents/family will dress up the baby? So we will have clothes of multiple sizes with, we don’t need anything else, right?
I was at Kaiser as well. Baby won’t need to be cleaned for a while. Unless there’s obvious need for it (poo or spit up) but they definitely help you learn to do the swaddle so that can come in handy for the pics but actual dressing them, I’m not sure
@Mahima yup just bring a couple different size clothes for baby homecoming. And yes you’ll be dressing the baby. Nurses might be able to help but by the time I was discharged I did mostly everything for baby except for when the nurses do their regular assessments
We asked the nurse to clean her hair because it was pretty gross lol but we left all the other stuff on her body. But yeah they are just there to help if needed but pretty much everything is on you. They just come in to check up.
We left baby in just her diaper and swaddles the whole time in the hospital. They wiped her clean after the C-section but didn’t do anything else. We cleaned her hair ourselves with a washcloth because it was kind of crusty. They taught us how to change diapers, wrap a swaddle, and soothe the baby but we were pretty much on our own.
Depends on the hospital some do not bathe anymore which is a good thing tbh and for getting them dressed they will help if u ask but I had a c section so the nurse dressed her and showed my husband how to put on her diaper and everything while they stitched me up. I had asked them not to wipe her off yet they still did.
They will clean or wipe down the baby after birth. No bath. Nurses will teach you how to swaddle and change diapers. They will occasionally change and swaddle the baby while you stay at the hospital. They will help you latch and breastfeed. You can ask for consultation with lactation specialist.
I.had my daughter at Kaiser, if you ask the nurses will help. But the standard is for parents to dress the baby.
