Advice regarding vet

Just after some advice. My cat has had reccurent eye ulcers, 3 in 2 years. Today he is showing all the symptoms of another one and is clearly not happy in himself. I made an appointment for today and my partner took him to the vets (he’s been at the same vets since being a kitten). The vet basically refused to give us his normal treatment (which originally took us 5 months to get and over £1000 of other treatment) despite my partner saying that it is the only thing that works for him. So he’s come home with different drops and medication (that we know don’t work from previous experience) and have already spent hundreds of £s. They told him to bring him back next week (another £70) for a review. We know this treatment isn’t going to work, my question is, is this something worth putting a complaint in about? My cat is clearly distressed and unhappy and we’re not being listened to and are spending unnecessary money (money isn’t the issue as we have good insurance) I just hate seeing him unwell 😔 if they’d just give us the treatment we knows work, we know he’d be better in 2 days!

What was the reason why he refused? The vet should see on the system what treatment your cat has had before. Also the vet should be taking what you have said seriously.. I’d definitely make a complaint.

Personally I'd consider changing vets. It's like if you went to your GP with a broken wrist but they told you it was sprained but you knew it was broken. You wouldn't take the treatment for a sprain, you'd seek someone else to give you the treatment you know you need. Granted its a dramatic example but you get what I mean, right? You can put in a complaint but I would start considering a different vet

@Hayley she said she didn’t feel it was an ulcer (she had to ask her colleague for advice as she wasn’t sure) and told us to make an appointment to see their specialist ophthalmology vet (who we’ve seen many times and last gave us treatment in December and told me that the arrival of a baby is likely to cause an outbreak causing ulcers) we said this is what’s happened before and it turned out to be an ulcer that was difficult to treat as it was mistreated for so long!

@Ebony the only reason we don’t is because their specialist ophthalmologist vet (despite being the most expensive person to see) has always been amazing with our cat. Annoyingly she is on leave this week.

Yes, definitely complain and stand your ground next time
