I was just told i have to get "permission" to switch obs??

So I had my first appt since finding out I'm pregnant again. Im about 11 weeks. I hated how the doctor treated me he had terrible bedside manner. The entire time I was in his office he was starring at his computer screen wouldn't even look at me. Then when it was time for me to leave he didn't even stand up or anything he just kept starring at his computer. So today I called the office and I asked if they had any other doctors I could see in that office. They said yes but because I'm pregnant I have to get permission from my doctor to switch. I've literally never heard of this before, even during my first pregnancy I switched doctors and they never did this. Has anyone else experienced this?? Is this normal for some offices and not others or a new thing they've started? Honestly kind of reminds me of handmaids tale like this is just the beginning....

Never heard of this. In fact it was encouraged I meet all the doctors bc I never knew who would be on call when I delivered.

I switched with both of my pregnancies. Once at 37 weeks....twice 😂 you don't have to legally stay with anyone. If they won't let you switch, find a different OBs officr and just tell them you had a positive pregnancy test and need a new OB.

You don’t have to get “permission” but you should switch before you get too far along because most ob’s won’t take you. Ob’s like to keep track of your pregnancy from start to finish

Baby it’s your body, your baby, your health and…you’re responsible for the medical bills. You don’t need anyone’s permission. Yes, when you’re further along it’s best to stay put and finding an office to take you is difficult. At 11weeks your basically newly pregnant—switching is easyyyy.

Some offices have policies like that because of doctor hopping. I would look for an OB in a different office/clinic.

They say that so you can keep going to them… had a Dr do the same then they called all through the week to make sure you come back

I would switch offices entirely. I had a midwife instead of an OB. She was courteous, professional, very informed, and did everything a woman needs to monitor a pregnancy. I had hour long visits where we talked about everything from baby’s growth to diet to how I was sleeping. I always felt seen and heard and had a healthy 8lb baby at the end of 42 weeks. 10/10 would recommend.

I’m guessing they meant that for insurance purposes you have to get recommended from your “primary care” doctor to a different OB. So not from your current OB to a new one. Some insurances (I think HMO) require direct referrals from primary doctors, whoever is listed on your insurance card, to be able to issue payments for services. So call the number on your insurance card and they’ll get you sorted

It’s not permission, but they need to sign off that you’re of normal pregnancy. I was a high risk pregnancy and was unable to switch because no other place wanted to accept me.

My office makes me see a different Dr each time (incase they deliver the baby) but would accommodate me to see the ones I like.

I’ve seen almost every doctor and midwife in the practice where I had my 2 youngest

i switched OB’s three weeks before my due date and they HAPPILY took me

Switch to a different office to have peace of mind. I waited too late and the new office wouldn’t take me because I was too far along.
