Anxiety

Has anyone been suffering from anxiety/panic attacks? I’ve been waking up at 5am the last two days and just walking outside for two hours doing breathing exercises and talking out loud to myself to calm down. Never had them before so it’s freaking me out but I think they are just over the unknown as it’s my first time. Spoken to my midwife, but any advice would be greatly appreciated 🫶🏼

i’ve always had anxiety, but it got really bad during my pregnancy! i was having so many panic attacks but they’ve completely gone now. my anxiety is now focused on different things now my baby girl is here but it’s definitely so much better. just be patient with yourself & take the time you need to feel every emotion, no matter what it is. they’re not forever & they soon pass xxxx

Yes been having them really badly the whole way through pregnancy but mostly just before I go to sleep, thinking I'm about to have a heart attack and die. I was told its to do with my hormone levels and to do breathing exercises. You can also get free therapy sessions too if you talk to your doctor/midwife

I’ve started having some panicky, shakey episodes. If I keep doing my daily yoga/meditation it seems to help. Sending you big hugs - panic attacks are so difficult. But don’t worry - it’s completely understandable and common with all the hormones coursing through our bodies and the unknowns of this crazy journey. Give yourself lots of love and patience - I find hugging myself and telling myself I’m going to be ok helps ❤️

Yes!!!! It’s been terrible this last week for me and there is no reason for it!!!! I try so hard to chill myself out but it still gets to me for no reason!!!!! Hence my writing a reply at 2.30am 😂😂😂 I make sure I exercise every day to try and tire myself out etc and it can help but it’s still there. I’m week 38 now not long to go x

Talk to a counsellor or friends, family, partner about your feelings. Journal, meditate, exercise, practice mindfulness exercises. Try to eat and sleep well. Keep busy and focus your attention on an activity rather than negative thoughts (hobbies, crafts, colour, baking etc)

Might be worth asking your GP to refer you to perinatal mental health team :)

Thank you so much for everyone’s responses, just knowing that the feeling does go away has really helped. I have been referred by my midwife for more help and I have also done a self referral. I’m only 17 weeks and it’s worse at night and in the early hours of the morning. Just want to get on top of it so even if it does go away I’m ready for if it ever comes back. Thank you all so much ❤️.
