Snack drawer

Does anyone have a snack drawer or cupboard that your little one has access to throughout the day to help themselves? What do you put in it? I’m thinking of starting this with bits as my little girl is always “starving” 🙄🤣

Our 3 year old can open our main larder cupboard with all of the food in, but we don’t just let him take what he wants. We limit to one ‘naughty snack’ a day (crisps, fruit winder, crackers etc): then if he is still hungry his options are fruit, nuts, yoghurt, cheese etc. basically!

No our cupboard is up high so he can’t get to it. But I’m inter to hear what others do as I do wonder if he would be better if he can get to it himself he knows he can only have something once a day xx

We have an old sweet tin where we keep raisins, small biscuits or Jaffa cakes. She knows where it is and can get it, but she has to ask. As other have mentioned she can't have one of those snacks, without choosing some fruit from the bowl/fridge. It's normally what she has in the evening after nursery between tea and supper x

I use to put a grazing tray out or make a bento box with.... Crackers Cheese Fruit.... Raisins Frozen yoghurt tubes Avocado Mini sandwich bites Boiled eggs Crisp Mini pancakes Bread sticks and dips Vegetable sticks Small packet of fruit gums Biscuit Breakfast bars

@Anita that’s a great idea xx

@Anita that’s kind of what I was thinking too. Stuff like this that’s readily available for her to grab if she’s hungry. Try and promote a little independence but make sure it’s healthy and not all rubbish she’s eating x

No our food cupboard is high, I couldn't think of anything worse that her having access to it, she would just try everything and eat all day long and then not eat her proper meals. It's bad enough her being able to open the fridge. If she wants a snack she'll ask and I'll let her choose from a few options

@Kath this is the issue I’m worried of too, however at her nursery they’ve adopted this kind of approach and weirdly, she eats less. It’s like she doesn’t want it as much when she has access to it 🤣

To be fair mine high but my 3 yr old can get to it by moving a chair and I have seen my 19 month old on my kitchen side when I've been down there trying do the same. Tho I wouldn't say the thing in there are daughter treats. Theys raises, soreens bars, popcorn, ginger cake, rice cakes, some dried fruits. They know they get one snack a day. They tend to eat main meals and if hungry have toast or my youngest one it cheese obsessive like cheese lol.
