Dairy free

My son is a sicky boy and has been since birth. GP has asked me to try a week of dairy free as he is EBF. Can anyone suggest a dairy free milk. I've tried soy and couldn't stand the taste. I'm allergic to nuts so can't try almond milk etc. Any tips for milk but also other dairy free alternatives that I may not have thought about yet?

Oat milk is lovely

@Chloé Collier thanks ill give it a go. Is it a strong oat taste?

Coconut milk?

I’ve found the oatly to be the best oat milk, the barista one in hot choc/hot drinks is 😍

@Tanya I really don't like coconut 🙈

I've switched to Oatly Barista oat milk and am really enjoying it!

Can’t offer any advice on products but just a heads up dairy free for a week may not make a huge difference to cmpa if that’s what they’re suspecting. It can take 4-6 weeks for the proteins to work their way out if babies system and that’s after they’ve worked their way out of your system

@Ceri-Ann I did think 1 week was a bit odd. They havnt even seen him yet just from an online consultation. I mentioned to my HV that he was still bit of a sicky baby and didn't know if that was normal and they told me to contact GP. He's not vomiting, just always spewing up milk throughout the day and sometimes enough for me to get changed.

It may well be reflux over milk allergy especially if baby doesn’t have any mucousy nappies, feeding refusal, generally being unsettled looking like they’re in discomfort or rashes. Spitting up isn’t generally a sign of an allergy but projectile vomitting is

@Ceri-Ann reflux is what I was expecting them to say. He gets a rash under his chin but that's cause it gets wet so easy especially with teething dribble too. He's 75th centile so getting plenty of milk!

i'm vegan and oat milk is definitely my favourite. if you like cheese, applewood vegan is the nicest i think. nomo is great for chocolate!

@Claire it may be worth asking to trial gaviscon or omeprazole first.

@Ceri-Ann thank you i will do

Oat milk, it will most likely take longer then a week, if you don’t find any/ much improvement from just milk around 50% of babies with a milk allergy also have a soya allergy xx

Can you get a second opinion/see a different doctor? Sounds like my baby who had reflux…

@Sana I've not even seen the GP yet, they replied to my online submission and have told me I need to try 1 week dairy free and see the doctor in 3 weeks
