Serve veg cooked nice and soft and in big pieces You can also do big strips of meat Split bananas into thirds so they're not sticky and slippery
As long as you avoid high risk choking foods, you should be okay! Any small round shaped foods (cherry tomatoes, grapes, sliced carrots in circles etc), hard foods (popcorn kernels etc), bone and gristle on meat, ensure no small bones in fish. Always let your baby feed themselves finger foods as this reduced the risk of choking as their hand motor skills develop alongside chewing skills. Watch lots of gagging videos on YouTube yo prepare ☺️
Starting off with lengths of veg around the width of your finger that's cooked until squishable between your fingers is a good starting point.
My daughter always eats whatever I have for myself without salt. Taking in mind the cuts and size. You can check solid starts if you have any concerts about choking https://solidstarts.com/
A friend once said she had learnt if a baby is making noise like choking that is gagging and a normal reflex and if they go quiet that is when you worry as they are choking. Always found this useful to bear in mind x
Hi Laura, nanny here and mom to be. Always do the squash test, if you can squash it with your hand easily it’s safe to eat for baby. Don’t worry if he doesn’t enjoy purees, whole foods are much better to introduce different textures and helps not to have a picky eater later on x
Thank you for all your advice
If you’re worried look into a first aid course with someone like mini first aid (my friend runs the Worcester franchise and her works amazing!) Have a look into annabel karmel. She’s the beginning, end and everything in between of baby led weaning and has so much information on how to cook and cut food, recipes etc
if ur scared abt choking u should definitely know infant cpr and/or purchase a life vac bc children can choke at any point no matter age or what food they’re eating. there’s infant cpr videos online so u don’t have to be certified to know it or get the information (im just certified bc i was a daycare teacher) there fr is nothing scarier than a child choking and i’ve had to use my training before (this child was 4yo though) you can never be too prepared!!
If you haven't download Solid Starts it's really good for introducing different textures and shows you how to prepare for each age group etc. You can do carrots, sweet potato , cauliflower etc
