Everything @Raisa has said! Have you considered doing a children’s first aid course or watching YouTube video on what to do if a child chokes? It’s also worth watching a video on gagging vs choking as they are often confused. The solid starts app is great (and there is a free version) for finding out how to serve age appropriate versions of each food. You could also try “laddering food” so write a list of a food type you want to introduce for example bread. At the bottom of the ladder put something you are comfortable with and try giving it every day for a week, on each step of the ladder is the next food in a slightly different format changing the texture/size etc. So for bread you could do week 1: eggy bread cut into cubes, week 2: toast cubes with a spread, week 3: pitta fingers with a dip week 4:breadsticks with dip week 5: toast fingers, week 6: sandwiches serve in bite size pieces. That way it will slowly build your confidence and expose little one slowly to new textures.
It’s not easy to over come, what made me feel better was have you ever felt the force of your little one’s bite? Their bite is so strong! It made me feel more comfortable giving him harder/ chewier things like cucumber and meat. And of course knowing what to do in case of emergency x
The only thing that helped my anxiety was to do a first aid course..i wasn’t giving him any food until then and he was 7 months..but after that slowly i offered him more and more , we had few episodes of gagging and vomiting but it does get better and now i trust him with everything apart from raw carrots..(i tried once and never again)
Food anxiety is the worst and introducing any new food can bring it on. You definitely aren't alone in feeling like this. You could start slow if that helps? With cucumber, maybe start with the soft internal part and cut that into quarters (remove all the hard outer edge and skin). Then work up to more parts of the cucumber slowly. With bread - if you do ever want to try it, toast it and cut into small bitesize pieces. Soften with something e.g butter/avocado - anything you like, soup even With biscuits, there are baby biscuits that might be a good starter option? Don't be too hard on yourself, your worrying just shows you are a parent who cares!. watching videos or joining online weaning classes might help? I think they have a section on food safety and choking hazards and what to do if that might put your mind at ease at all. Sorry if you have already tried this option!
