Name Dilemma

Totally agree with you, Francesca is one of my favourite girls names but we were put off using it because of the shortened versions of the name!

I don’t really shorten peoples names without okaying it with the individual themselves first; but Id be inclined to come up with Fran on my own; but if they told me they preferred being called Frankie I absolutely would & could see where it comes from

My name is Francesca but rarely get called it unless I'm in trouble 😆 my friends call me Fran and my family call me Chess. I used to absolutely hate my name but as I've gotten older I actually really like it 😁

I’d think Frannie but I’m not gonna shorten someone’s name unless they say it’s a nickname or they don’t care. And even then if it’s a pretty name I’m still gonna call them by their name unless they straight up don’t like it

My daughter’s name is Anneliese. We have never shortened it to anything else. She WILL correct ANYONE who tries to call her by another name. Also, she’s 3… she knows who she was meant to be. If you only call her Francesca then that is what she will learn to be her name.

As a baby/kid, she’ll likely be called by a nickname. She might like to use her full name more as she gets older.

I feel that way about my boys names Emiliano and Lorenzo people always shorten it but i hate it I picked their names because I liked them not because I wanted them butchered

There was a little girl called Francesca at the childminders when my eldest went, no one ever shortened it and they were all together for 3 years. I would say that if you want her to be known as Francesca then always introduce her that way and correct people if/when they shorten it (that’s what my mum did with me growing up and it definitely worked).

I went two school with a couple of Francescas. Some shortened (one was Chesca, one was Frankie) but one just went by Francesca. Frankie is my favourite shortening possibly because Frankie was the most pleasant of all the Francescas I knew 😅 It’s totally possible to just hold onto the name.
