When is everyone starting weaning?

FTM no judgement please. I know it’s recommended to start solids at 6 months but my 5 month old is very fussy with milk and keep staring at food when we eat. Some older friends told us they started solids when their babies were 4 month old, that was a few years ago. Has anyone started solids before 6 months and was it okey? I’m really scared I could hurt my baby somehow if I start earlier.

I've started with just some baby rice & Sunshine Orange by Milupa. Just a couple of teaspoons mixed in with her formula. She's loved it. She was 5 months last Friday and has been just guzzling bottles

I started at 5 months just baby rice or porridge mixed with breast milk. I have recently let her try carrot purée and going to try sweet potato purée this week. Starting very slowly with one option per day, of course still having usual feeds. Some babies show signs of readiness before 6 months x

6 months is advised to cut out the puree stage & to help with allergies, I think. It used to be 4 months on soft pureed stuff . I know people who have started before because babies are siting independently and asking for it. It really is down to whether your little one is ready in their abilities yet. There's loads of information online but check out solid starts on Instagram. In the UK lots of family hubs, health visitors have sessions on it to go to & the NHS has loads https://www.nhs.uk/start-for-life/baby/weaning/

The recommendation is "around 6 months" so from 5.5-6.5 months old. But being fussy and hungry is normal at this stage as they are preparing for a growth and development spurt. And watching what you eat isn't a sign of readiness, they don't know what food is, they don't know what you're putting in your mouth is edible as they've never experienced anything other than milk. It's just curiosity. It's best to wait until the recommended age (which is only a couple of weeks away) so you can skip purées and go straight to baby led weaning, which is much better for their development and exploration of food

You should wait until around 6 months. For some babies, they won't be ready until closer to 7 months. Your baby needs to be able to sit with their body centered and have good eye, mouth, hand connection. Your baby watches you when you do many things because they're curious. There are studies that show that babies who weaned early had gastrointestinal issues, obesity or food allergies later on. It's not long to wait. Just wait.

They need to be able to support their own head well and show an interest in food. 6 months is a guide but depends on the baby. How to wean your baby is a really good step by step book

Same as my 1st we'll do baby led weaning from minimum 6 months and showing all signs of readiness e.g sitting unaided, list tongue thrust reflex etc
