Dealing with first trimester and work

Hey does anyone have nay advise with navigating work in the first trimester I feel like absolute shit and I am expected to be in the office but I literally struggle with eating, nauseous and throwing up. I don’t know what to do work doesn’t know and I don’t know how supportive they’d be anyway - any advice ?

Get yourself to Drs and get signed off, tell work though as any pregnancy related sickness and illness cannot go against you & most places pay you also. (Not in this group I’m 31 weeks, but have had this with 2 pregnancies)

I told my boss at 7 weeks as I was struggling and was able to work from home

Thanks ladies!!

Hey! I told my boss at 6 weeks I’ve been struggling with horrendous sickness since then (I’m now 10 weeks) he was lovely and congratulated me but when I’ve taken time off or asked for adjustments he hasn’t been great!! My advice is do it anyway and f*** them 😂 you’re not doing anything wrong if you need time off or adjustments. Nothing matters more than your health, mental health & baby’s health! Also remember once you notify them that you are pregnant, sickness etc cannot be held against you when pregnancy related Hope your employer is better than mine if you do tell them, and if they’re not, stand your ground x

I’m a business owner with 400+ staff and my job is very demanding. Being pregnant gave me an interesting insight. My pregnancy isn’t too bad, despite being very geriatric (44 years old), feeling exhausted all the time (now 11 weeks) and constant nauseousness, I’m reasonably able to function. I told my EA and leadership team as soon as I found out I’m pregnant. Instead of work 12hrs+ each day, I’ve adjusted to make it more flexible and working less hours. So I can have afternoon nap if needed (then I’ll work longer in the evening). So far, whilst it’s not easy, I find it a great opportunity for me to explore ways of being more effective and brutally prioritising. I don’t know if it is sustainable and whether it’ll affect my career as realistically I’ve less bandwidth devoting to work, but I find it an opportunity for me to learn in preparation to have a family whilst having a demanding job.

Hey! So sorry you’re going through this. I am exactly the same. Currently 9 weeks and have been exhausted, off food, nauseous and vomiting since I was 5 weeks. I told my employer and got a GP note allowing me to wfh for the first 2 weeks which got extended for another 2. I will probably have to extend it again as I’m in no shape to commute half way through London on busy tubes. Once you tell your manager they have no choice (legally) but to make adjustments. Hope it gets better for you soon!
