Cooking

My baby is 9.5months.. At what age do you stop making separate food for baby? Meaning if I’m making spaghetti Bol.. baby can have the same dish as mine supposed to me making another dish without salt ?

Yeah so we cook and then separate for her and then add salt for us and spices etc

We’ve just been using low or zero salt stock and all having the same thing since we started weaning. If it’s something quite spicy, we just add lots of natural yogurt to baby’s. If its something we need extra seasoning on, we just add it at the end after plating up for baby :)

You have to be really careful of salt content up until 1 as they shouldn’t have any more than 1g, no more than 2g from the age of 1-3. I don’t add any salt to my cooking really anyway so hasn’t been an issue for us, a little is fine but it’s really bad for their kidneys

@Elena how do you manage with the no salt concern ?

We never give separate dishes! The only time he's had something different is if we're out and about and he can't have our food at a café/restaurant.

I only give her separate stuff at lunch and dinner as we're always out and she has dinner alot earlier than me xx

Thank you guys

You shouldn't worry about salt too much if you aren't eating ultra processed foods. Hopefully this link works https://www.instagram.com/reel/DGZa1IyPQvw/?igsh=MWhhOXAzaTlwM2U3

I’ve just cut out using any salt in my cooking so our LO can just have what we’re having. Making separate meals for them is so time consuming x

You can make just the one dish without salt and then add it in the end just for yourself after separating a portion for the baby…

@Elena I imagine you cook with low salt / salt-free stock cubes. Just to clarify for folks because regular stock cubes are very high in sodium. And depending on how many portions you cook at once, a stock cube can have a dangerously high salt content.
