Weaning / purees?

Anyone know a good source/website/app to get clued up on how to start weaning. My little boy is 4 1/2 months and such a milk guzzler. I have no idea where to start 🙈

Ella's kitchen

NHS website has good info and I think they also recommend an app, check

Solid Starts app☺️

I'll be honest, starting purées that early is not recommended. There's a pretty big developmental progression happening now and drinking more milk is not a sign they're ready to start weaning. It's better to wait until around 6 months so that they can go straight on to baby led weaning, where they have control over the pace of eating which is a protective factor against choking. You can use the solid starts app when they're around 6 months to give you info on how to prepare food

I started purées early as I was going through so much milk in a week it was just so much, so I started with Ella’s kitchen and I even joined the Ella’s kitchen so I got some free coupons too, my boy just loves the bananas from them and prefers that to me doing my own x

Ella's kitchen do some good books on it with recipes and how to start. Or Annabel Karmel books. "What mummy makes" is great for 6 months+ when doing finger foods. That's all recipes you can make for you and baby/whole family so you don't have to cook multiple times.

Weaning isn’t advised before 6m unless advised by a medical professional as the gut is still underdeveloped. It isn’t able to pull the nutrients baby need from food yet but filling up on food will reduce milk intake and in turn needed nutrition. There’s also new links being made between early weaning and ibs in later life. They go through a big growth spurt around now so an increase in milk intake is very normal

If you look in your red book (yours might be a different colour!) The local authority often does a course you can go on which is free and really helpful.

Ella kitchen website- they have a free weaning pack you can sign up for with a veg first approach. It's really useful actually

Charlotte Stirling-Reed has a great Instagram with lots of information on and books. Also second Ella's kitchen.

Thanks everyone! Ella’s kitchen do pouches which say 4 months so thought it would be ok but I will hold off another 4/5 weeks 👍🏻
