Not eating solids

My 10 month old seems so uninterested in food and really isn’t a massive fan of solids. Some days he’ll eat well (a few spoonfuls of pureed foods or a few bites of what I’m eating, loves yoghurt any time of the day) but other days he just turns away and I don’t Want to force him. I keep offering but he’s not a fan of breakfast, lunch he does okay, and dinner is mostly a hit but again, he only mostly likes pureed and his portion sizes are what I consider small. Am I doing something wrong? Should I be worried? My eldest had no issues and was having a variety of flavours and textures at this age.

My son is 9 months two weeks and exactly the same . I don’t know what to do just hoping for the best that he changes

No we’re in exactly the same boat! I was told by our HV they don’t worry until children are around 18 months and not confident eaters x

@Justina awww bless, it can be so disheartening but I guess they’re still young and there’s still time for them to hopefully be more open to try. Hope for a change for you and your son soon xx

@Molly aww sorry to hear you’re in the same boat but thank you for this, this is reassuring

I’m in the same boat, my sister is a paediatric dietician and she said formula is much more important for them at this age and contains everything they need. Food is for exploring and they will be eating much more by 2. She actually said you don’t want the food to impact the milk consumption ( I was being told to drop bottles by heath visitor as my baby takes 4 bottles a day). She said the milk is very important and if the food is effecting it this is not right! The food should be additional and every baby goes at their own pace :)

@Sophie thank you so much for this information, this is really helpful to know. Sorry that you’re also having similar experiences but it’s good to know that you have your sister to give reassuring advice because I agree that these HV can make it seem that there is a rush to master eating by 1!! They’re still so young and even between 1–2years, they go through a lot of developmental growth and transitions which can affect a toddler’s palet, diet and appetite (speaking from experience!). Thank you xx

Thank you for your kind words
