I’m about to quit my job

I’ve got 5 kids youngest is 9 months oldest is 10!! I work full time (remote from home) in sales, I have targets. I’m done I can’t do this it’s too much. I am tired of constantly apologising for taking longer breaks and needing time off at last min notice. My kids are currently unwell so it’s been a lot of back and forth to the GP and having to others and explain to my boss. I’m done! My husband works and it will be tight for us financially but I believe we will get by. I just need a break and working on top of the kids is stretching me thin and I’m about to pop if something doesn’t change. To those who might suggest part time- to be honest the most I can manage right now is a few hours a day like 3/4 days a week and I don’t think it’s they are likely to cut my hours that much. It’s either all or nothing and I don’t have all to give to work right now.

What country are you based in? Could you put a flexible working request in or go off sick yourself with mental health stress x

@Rosie I’m in the UK

Sounds like your mind is made up, you need a break, and if you need justification, your kids are not young forever, there will always be time to work ❤️ if you can do it and made a plan, then do it xx

If you’ve been there a long while you could just get paid to go off sick maybe if you have a contract that pays sick pay until they sort you out hours wise maybe. Just an idea

I did this! I’d say it was a little tighter than I expected even after I budgeted everything. We started building an emergency fund but it’s already gone and we’ve hit a few hiccups especially with my husband’s job. I’m going back to work but only short term to make up for expenses we didn’t anticipate.

I feel for you and that you have 5 kids, you definitely need a break. Maybe could you work from home or??

@Kat thanks for sharing your experience. Do you still feel u made the right decision leaving? It’s not an easy decision so I admire u for taking that step. And even though you are going back you know it’s not going to be long term so there’s a plan there. Wishing u all the best

Thanks ladies, so I’m technically not permanent yet over only been there 4 months on a freelance contract so I don’t think I’m entitled to any sick time off. The hours are 9-6pm although there are flexible I am still expected to be available during those hours and the targets need to be met.

Surely they would rather you go part-time than quit altogether? I mean it’s costly for employers to hire and train new people so it would be in their best interests to keep you on. I would ask for a meeting and discuss your situation and try and come up with a solution that works for you all. If they are rigid and say no to part-time then it probably would be best to quit and come back to the workforce later when your children are a bit older.

Maybe take some unpaid time off to reevaluate? Are you making the decision based on you being highly stressed at the moment? But factually what you are doing is difficult so I understand. Capitalism man, I’ve considered moving away from the UK so many times because of childcare

You’re a strong mama! 5 young kids and working full time. Take that break if possible, you won’t regret it❤️

@Chí thank youuuu 🥹🥹

@Jay capitalism right?!?! It’s robbing us fr

I’m having this issue. I’ve just put in a flexible working request so that I don’t do night shifts

Did you post not that long ago about this? You gotta do whatever is best for you and your family!

Ah ok if you had been there years and was on a permanent contract then that’s the time to take the sick leave and put in flex working requests. I guess if you’ve only been there a few months and it’s not a permanent contract then you’ve not a lot to loose by leaving 🤷🏻‍♀️

Are you able to reduce your hours? 5 kids is a lot to manage while working, especially having to work from home while your kids (at least the younger ones) are there. It's important to take care of yourself. You said you work full-time, are you able to work from home part-time instead? Then you are still making some money, but not working as much.
