Are potlucks still a thing?

My son's birthday is coming up and I'm a burnt out single mom trying to do everything on a low budget Friends told me to d a potluck but I feel hesitant because there are a lot of people coming who I haven't seen in a couple of years and I kind of feel bad asking them to bring food so what do y'all think???

What about only asking the people that you talk to most often?

Yes! I did a potluck style for my son’s 1st birthday.

@s a r a 🥀 okay cool did you have a list where you made sure there weren't duplicates and guests could take it off or something. What were some of the highlights or things that got eaten pretty fast LOL

No. No list at all. I just had everyone bring whatever dish (homemade, store bought, or restaurant) and drinks of their choice. We had a small birthday party for his 1st as we weren’t sure how to plan and all but after his 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th birthday, we provided the food and drinks for the guests.

If your friends are suggesting it, then they most likely don’t mind. In lieu of presents 🎁, maybe you can ask for food. Or ask for toys /books their kids no longer want. It’s a nice way to discover new recipes or stores we don’t buy from.
