Remote jobs

Anybody know of any company that still has remote jobs and are hiring? Currently been applying to places on indeed but no luck! Just really want to have as much time close to my baby.. should I just apply to a regular job.. I worry about leaving him too soon and too little in a daycare and getting sick and having to ask for days off regardless and regularly…(but most importantly is I don’t want him to get sick!) Am I just overthinking, over exaggerating or what?

I found it difficult to find remote jobs for my area. So I ended up finding an evening job instead, which will work great for our situation. So I’ll be working 5pm-10pm for example, that way I’m home all day with my LG so we can still go out, I can do all the running around like appointments and things and don’t have to stress in childcare as she won’t start nursery until September. Then when my hubby gets home he’ll take over whilst I go off to work. Not sure if you have the support to possibly go down that route too maybe? X

@Sammi Didn’t think about it because unfortunately I do not have that support unless I can start later during the day but who knows maybe I can get a similar schedule. 🤞🏽

Sorry to hear, if it helps at all the route I’ve now taken is care work and the hours are really flexible. I applied for so many different care companies as they all had the same passion of giving you that work/home life balance. That’s only of course if that’s a path you’d enjoy/want to do, I know each to their own. However, you may find a lot of remote jobs on indeed for your location. I know in the South, the local councils can often have remote working. So maybe worth a try there if you don’t mind admin based tasks x

Are you in the UK Incog? If so, you’ll be hard pushed to find any employer who would allow you to work alongside looking after your child at the same time. Majority of employers would require proof of childcare in place beforehand. Your second issue will be due to the whole govt agenda of getting everyone back into the physical workplace, wfh jobs are becoming quite rare. Have you thought about self-employment? How long have you been out of work for? What kind of work would you be willing to do?

Can you afford daycare/nursery? I say that as someone who was paying £1600 per month for a child going 3 days a week. I had no help from the govt and that was so I was able to work 3 days a week. My daughter used to go from 7.45am to 6pm. The first 5 months she barely did more than 1 or 2 days a week as she was always sick/off with something. I still had to pay regardless of whether she was ill or not. Thankfully my boss is chill and I’m able to work flexibly, but so many of my friends were not so lucky and ended up quitting before getting fired. It really is hard for mothers trying to get back into work. What about your previous employer - would you be able to go back on a part-time basis?

@Sammi I was babysitting with really good pay prior and during my pregnancy. But I was needed working hrs so morning to afternoon. :/ Wish I could do it in the evenings. Thanks for the advice I will look into that

@Neena not in the UK… yeah I have thought about the govt getting everyone back to the workplace, and that is why there are little remote job offers and some of the ones I don’t qualify for. I was babysitting prior to my baby’s arrival. And before that I worked as a dental assistant which I could probably just do that but my only issue is that I am trying to avoid daycare not for the monetary cost but my baby’s health. He has been through so much since he was born already so thinking about him getting sick kills me! And on top of that getting hired and asking for days off or permission to leave the workplace as a dental assistant is hard the dentist can’t work without the assistant so I will be even more stressed. I wonder what I could do for self employment… I am crafty and also love decorating/party planning but I don’t think I can be financially stable starting off with that.

@Neena that is exactly my point om the previous response. Not every employer will be flexible especially starting off as a new employee. And like I said dental assisting doesn’t allow that kind of flexibility anyways.

Are you in the bay area California? I was a dental assistant also. My previous office sees patients Tuesdays Wednesdays and Thursdays so it’s sort of part time? That way you can be with your baby 4 days of the week

I was going to suggest getting qualified as a childminder, as you have babysitting experience. If you became a childminder you could look after other children alongside your child. But it would depend if your home was suitable and if your baby is vulnerable to sickness you’d have the same problems as daycare. Although the risk of sickness would be lower than daycare as there would be a lot less children. Good luck whatever you decide to do i know it’s tough, it took me ages to get back to work after my daughter was born due to me having such limited availability. I also ended up getting an evening job and while I’m very grateful to have it, it’s far from my dream job.

@Benisa I am in Florida. You would be surprised with how people are here. I once worked at an office that did not even let me take some time for my dr appointments. Given i also had to work on saturdays (full time) And it just scares me that with this type of job will I even have a little time to pump?

@Kathryn trust me i have thought about this. But my living arrangements wont be suitable to care for more children. Aww I totally understand. I have been there before and I wouldn’t want to be there again but whatever might take to be able to be with my baby.
