Flying while pregnant

I'm 22 weeks pregnant booked a holiday to Menorca next month. When I fly back I'll be 28+2 the airline say the cut off is 28 weeks anything after that you need a fit to fly letter. Having an absolute nightmare with this my doctors refuse to do it, I don't mind paying for it they still won't do it. Anybody else have any issues with this? No idea what to do about it. Xx

I got my fit to fly letter from the midwifes each time. Nobody has ever asked for it though and I’ve been flying loads. Still good to have of course just in case ☺️

@Peppi have you flown over 28 weeks? Xx

Loads of doctors don’t like you flying in your third trimester simply just because your further along. My friend flew to turkey at 32 weeks but she needed a note from the midwife x

Is there any chance you can change your flights to easy jet? You can fly with them up to 35 weeks without a fit to fly. To be honest I flew up to 35 weeks last time and was never asked for anything 🤷‍♀️

@Tori it's a package holiday I booked it through a travel agent so no. It says Jet2 won't let you fly past 35 weeks but I'll be way off that it's so annoying that it's 2 days over. Xx

I got mine through midwife too.. if your a low risk pregnancy there shouldn’t be any issues.

My drs said they would if midwife refused but it would be a charge. Didn’t ask how much. There’s even some private companies online that will do it for you if you’re struggling.

Oh I did have to pay! £20

Thanks everyone I've rang my midwife. Initially she told me she wasn't allowed and it would have to be from the doctors. So hopefully she can help. I know I could just lie and say I was 26 weeks but would rather not lie. Xxx

Just spoken to my midwife and she can't understand why the doctors won't do it. She said it has to be a doctor now but she's going to speak to the doctors and see what's going on. Xxx

@Shell My latest flight was long haul just after 28 weeks. But the airlines I’ve used say I need fit to fly since the beginning of pregnancy basically.

@Shell so strange they need a doctor to do it it was always just the midwife for me 😅

My GP doesn’t do them anymore either, I had to contact a private GP and would of paid in excess of £250. Anything written from a midwife isn’t sufficient for insurers should you need to claim. I spent hours on the phone to private GPs and insurers, it was such a headache we ended up staying in the UK.

So glad I read this I didn’t have a clue you needed one. Going away in 4 weeks and I’ll be 28 weeks on return. Same with my airline (Jet2) requires a letter after 28 weeks. I contacted my midwife today after seeing this post and she said she would do me one. X
