Im not certain whether u pay for their visa and travel but i know for sure you provide their accommodation. Some extra research should clarify the work authorization and travel process
From the point of view of an au pair (because I was one) The au pair lives with the family and comes to the US to take care of your kid(s) but also to experience and discover the culture here. There are multiple agencies : au pair care, culture care au pair, au pair in america. I was with cultural care and I think families where paying around 10K for the year but might be more now. The au pair paies for her visa and the agency paies for the flight. You will also have additional charges if you have an au pair living with you like the phone plan, food, probably gas if they drive… Lmk if you want me to tell you about my experience !
@Eva thank you for the insight!! I would love to hear your experience! Where did you Au Pair at?
I was in a family with 3 girls (2,5/7/9yo) in Seattle for a year and a family in Miami for 8 months with a 2yo boy. The first it was hard at the beginning for the little girl to get used to me because she had an other au pair before me. Au pair can only do 45 hours per week and my schedule was from 6:45 am to 4:45 Monday to Thursday and mornings on Friday. They made me feel like part of the family, I travelled with them, had dinner with them. If I needed my own time I could have it. Communication is really a key ! The second family was easier with one boy. They made me feel like family too. My schedule was different. I was working from 7 to 8:30 and 2:30 to 7ish. For both families I was waking up the kids, helping them getting ready for school, dropping them off, do their hair, prep their lunch, do activities with them, changing diapers, baths and sometimes night routine
A nanny is local and comes and leaves at the end of her shift an au pair, u normally match with internationally and(possibly fund their work visa etc) they live with your family. They should still have their work shifts set but u are responsible for their accommodation.
