My birth plan was "alive and healthy mom & baby" 😂 got exactly what I wanted and honestly I feel like going into the delivery with minimal expectations was really helpful for me because nothing about my delivery went as "expected"
I had no birth plan, just vibes 😂😂 if you’re looking for birth plan ideas though, you might like the podcast Mother Daze. The hosts talk a lot about birth and they also interview others to get their birth stories. There was an interesting episode with Nikki Reid and her doula.
I’m a doula and here’s what I always recommend to mom. Your birth plan should cover every scenario. It should cover pain management methods, induction methods, what you desire in the case of a cesarean, what you want to happen or not happen during the pushing stage of both baby and placenta, when baby is born. For a good birth plan to work, it has to be detailed and more importantly, you have to be educated on your options. Otherwise, once something goes left (which has a high chance of happening) your birth plan will be disregarded and without you being educated, you’ll say yes to things not knowing you actually have options, even in cases of emergency. Cause most doctors and hospitals won’t tell you EVERY option, they’ll tell you the one they want. Also choosing the right OBGYN or midwife and hospital or birth center that aligns more with the type of birth you want is EQUALLY as important if not more important
I would say, read this book: https://www.google.com/search?q=positive+birth+book+milli+hill&sca_esv=e35c2e37abae0a49&sxsrf=AHTn8zosHb2BhrEorgTs0KdXveDSCr4ZtQ%3A1742471366959&source=hp&ei=xgDcZ9rcN-bl7_UP0cPRsQE&gs_ssp=eJzj4tVP1zc0LEgzzSg3Tc41YPSSK8gvzizJLEtVSMosKslQSMrPz1bIzczJyVTIAJIAcmMQPg&oq=positive+birth+book+&gs_lp=EhFtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1ocCIUcG9zaXRpdmUgYmlydGggYm9vayAqAggAMggQLhiABBjLATIIEAAYgAQYywEyCBAAGIAEGMsBMggQABiABBjLATIIEAAYgAQYywEyBhAAGBYYHjIGEAAYFhgeMgYQABgWGB5IgTNQ5whYyilwAXgAkAEAmAGPAqABtRuqAQYwLjE0Lja4AQHIAQD4AQGYAhWgAtMfqAIPwgIHECMYJxjqAsICChAjGPAFGCcY6gLCAgQQIxgnwgIKEAAYgAQYQxiKBcICBRAAGIAEwgIFEC4YgATCAg4QLhiABBjHARiOBRivAcICCxAuGIAEGNEDGMcBwgIOEC4YgAQY0QMYxwEYywGYA1PxBbpE8PUTYm1jkgcGMS4xMS45oAfpjAGyBwYwLjExLjm4B4Af&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-hp#vhid=xpLoIC_99or2xM:&vssid=l&ebo=0 It guides you through all of the things you should consider having in your birth plan plus it gives you pictures/icons you can use to put your birth plan together so it's more of a visual thing. 🙂
I would also recommend going in with nothing set in stone as anything could happen. I had all these beautiful ideas with my first like a water birth, no drugs at a specific birthing unit and after trying all those things (plus lots more) ended up being ambulanced to hospital to have an epidural and an emergency c sestion after trying to labour for 48 hrs. I would make sure your birthing partner has absolutely no hesitation in advocating your wants and needs especially when you are unable to. With my second my birth plan was just to keep baby and myself alive!a
I don’t know how it is in the US but here my midwife went through the he birth plan options with me and explained everything to me really well. I’d also recommend going to a class if you can. I got lots of info on birthing options by going to a class and felt really informed.
