Gestational diabetes

Hi I’m 25 weeks pregnant and went to triage today and my urine has a lot of glucose in it. They think I have GD and I have a test on the 10 April, what happens when you have GD please? I have no idea about it, thank you x

Your be put on tablets if not insulin and the diabetic nurse will go through everything u need to know like wat foods to eat and wat u cant & if u put on insulin like i was they will also tell u how many units to give ur self day and night aswel as wat foods to eat ect hope that helps x

Had you eaten a lot of sugar before going? I’ve had porridge before and I put a lot of treacle in and then it came up with glucose in but always been negative for GD.

U just have to prick yourself with the needle to check your sugar levels it’s quite easy

If you have it you will get called in to get a testing kit and they will go through everything with you. You will see a nutritionist as well. Depending on how sever yours is you will either manage with a restricted diet, be given tablets, if it’s sever then injections of insulin. I have it bad (I’m on 4 x injections of insulin a day and tablets) it’s overwhelming to start with but you’ll get used to what you can and can’t eat etc.
