When is it right to start solids?

My ebf baby is on a sleep regression but every time she wakes she seems starving. I really don’t want to give her formula, we’ve come this far and I’m yet to find one without unpronounceable ingredients. Has anyone started solids yet? Does it help with sleep? She’s 20 weeks.

I’ve started my little girl on solids porridge from Kendamil and cow & gateway as it can be introduced at 4 months, and she seems interested. I’ve only started giving it to her in the mornings and it definitely helps with sleep. She sleeps immediately after having a small bowl (still milky though not too thick). I make it with formula; but you can also make it with breast milk! I plan to start giving it to her at night, just a scoop mixed in her bottle as I see it helps her sleep. As your little one is 5 months they may be ready, as they typically say by 6 months. You have to judge it by how interested she is to it. I will say it can be quite a challenge weaning a baby onto solids 🫣😭😭

🙈 research shows that introducing solids prior to 6 months actually makes no difference in sleep quality and frequent waking is healthy for babies developmentally to reduce the risk of SIDS, regardless of bottle fed/ breastfeeding there’s lots of guidance out there so defo worth reading up on. It is also suggested that introducing solids prior to 6 months can increase risks of allergies/intolerance and sensitivity to ingredients. Look for signs your baby is ready and have fun experimenting when you feel the time is right. @Holly you’d be better off just offering simple porridge oats as the formula brands add lots of additional ingredients, also cheaper so you’ll save money ☺️. (Meant in the nicest way possible) Avoid adding porridge into bottles as this increases choking risk and can also disassociate baby from the other bottles you aren’t then adding it too through the day.

She’s probably cluster feeding, most likely not starving. Please think about not starting solids till 6 months, it can create so many issues in the future. I did it with my eldest and I really really regret it

@Olivia what did you notice with your first? It’s advice that has definitely changed over the years. The grandparents keep telling me, time for food, but we’re planning on waiting
