my one can’t even write any letters. i tried to do some of this with him the other day and he wasn’t interested. he’ll get there, but he’s young and like above said he has years to sit at a desk writing lol. my little ones nursery isn’t too strict on learning to write, they do the occasional activity but not often x
Mines no where near, not worried yet as they're still so little xxx
Mine is nowhere near, nursery have already told me he has 0 interest in learning, he will sit down for about 2 minutes and wonder off he doesn’t have the concentration for it he can’t do any letters unless he is doing dot to dot x
Mine can but it’s “Tom” so nice and easy
She can't physically write it but she can spell it, it's nothing to worry about though, they don't need to be able to do it before school
Mine can recognize letters - but we're nowhere near being able to write them on his own yet
Yes, he can, but not because of anything I’ve done. The interest all came from him, and so we supported. I haven’t tried to teach anything that he hasn’t organically found an interest in. And, they definitely don’t need to be able to write it before school (I was a reception teacher for a long time, now deputy head) so you really don’t need to worry at all about that!
I wouldn’t worry about this at all as it’s important to strengthen their muscles to hold a pencil for longer and in future write for longer so lots of fine motor skill activities. Play doh is a good one
My daughter can, her names Sophia. Although she gets the ‘S’ muddled sometimes and writes it backwards😂
One of mine did the first letter of her name today A I was very impressed, I'm not worried about them doing it before they start school. They can recognise their own name and that's what I aimed for and what we were told to aim for.
@Emma i work in a nursery on a school, and have helped out in reception a few times, it’s incredibly common for them to write the S backwards, there was very few reception kids who would actually write it the correct way it baffled me😆 nearly all of them did a backward S! xx
Mine does but only because they do it every day at pre school as part of their routine day. He rarely does it for us at home
Yes mine can, his name is Archie x
@Sinead ohh that makes me feel better. She can write it the right way, she’s about 50/50 getting it muddled bless her x
Mine does but that's cos they're encouraged at nursery. They're hands are not built for writing until 4-5 years old but they're taught early to write these days. Best thing for them to strengthen hands is through play so let your boy do plenty of that. He'll have his whole life to be stuck at a desk learning and working. Don't let the system make u feel he's not in the right development cos they all develop in their own way x
