Homeschool vs Traditional School Socialization

Hi! Wondering if anyone homeschooled their kids for awhile and then transitioned to public, private or hybrid school and what that experience was like for your kids. I’m currently homeschooling my kids now (ages 7 and 8) who were in private school for Preschool through Kindergarten. They do karate twice a week which has been a good outlet for them but I can’t help but notice that they may need more socialization. We live in a very rural area and there’s very few co ops and the ones that are available are 45 minutes from where we live. We are planning on moving to the Tulsa OK area soon and I know there will be way more opportunities that will be more accessible to us. I just don’t know if I should try a homeschool hybrid option or just try to get them involved in more co ops and/or activities once there. What do you do to keep your kids socialized while homeschooling? I’d rather not transition them into public school.

I went to public head start/preschool and kindergarten and was homeschooled 1st-7th grades I did did martial arts, theater, and soccer Plus whatever community classes there were I was a little weirdo lol but like I don’t think in a bad way I was comfortable with who I was and I attracted good people towards me

We join every local homeschool Facebook group and participate in all of their park days. My kiddo also goes to a learning/enrichment center once a week and it’s from 9-2:30 and he has friends there that he sees consistently every week, it’s not a drop in program.

@Emm Love this!! ❤️

@Asha My kids and I are all weirdos, love this!! 💕

I was homeschooled for much of my childhood, and now I homeschool my kiddos (ages 11, 8 & 1). I didn’t transition to public, private or hybrid school, but I was taking dual-enrollment classes at my local community college by age 16! Socializing came naturally for us because we had so many activities like church, community service and volunteering, music, debate, etc. Even if you live in a rural area, don’t discount the multi-generational interactions that come with homeschooling! Your kiddos can spend time with relatives, family friends, even casual acquaintances in public places like grocery stores and parks. It always makes my day when fellow shoppers in the aisles will stop to talk with my kiddos, then get so impressed at their responses and even start having conversations! 🥰

@Shanxi This is great, thanks!! 😊
