OBYN

My family doctor is in Toronto, and she just went on Maternity leave, I been trying to get an appointment with the doctor who is replacing her but haven't gotten any luck. We found out we were pregnant, we had to get the blood work from a walk in clinic because again, we couldn't get an appointment.. does anyone know if a walk in clinic (Not ideal) would give me a referral for an OBYN?

Yes they will ! I had to do this with my last pregnancy because my family doctor retired

Any specific things I would have to tell the walk in clinic doctor? Should I call the doctor office before hand ? What do you recommend

I would check with your fam doc if you can , they get charged everytime you go to the walk in so they might drop you as a paitent. I for blood work they confirmed my pregnancy booked my ultrasound and referred me to a ob

@Adriana I haven't been able to get an appointment with the doctor who is taking over her while she's on maternity

You can also consider having a midwife be your primary practitioner. Most places have waitlists but it sounds like you’re pretty early on so you’ll likely get accepted faster. And with the comment about checking in with your family doctor or risking being dropped…most people in Toronto don’t have family doctors that follow them through their entire pregnancy because they’re not trained that way or are comfortable with it. So eventually your family doctor would have to refer you to an OB or you can seek out a midwife / midwife clinic yourself. My family doc was on a month long vacation so I just sought alternatives via a walk in I’m registered with a midwife clinic. I have three midwives on my team and have gotten to know all of them, one or two of them will be at my birth (hospital) depending on the timing of things. Depending on your health profile, midwives can also transfer your care to an OB is they feel that it is medically necessary (this can happen prior to and during birth).
