Finger foods

My LB is almost 8 months and loves food. He’s great with purées and likes finger foods. But finger foods still make me really nervous because he just shoves big pieces into his mouth or bites off big chunks (with his one bottom tooth 😂). He’ll gag and then get really distressed and cry and that’d be the end of the meal. I’ve tried to teach him to chew and spit out larger pieces but he just looks at me and smiles. How I can help him through this initial stage of getting better at eating finger foods. I feel like I’m holding him back by being so worried about finger foods - I end up offering more purées. But finger foods really stress me out! Anyone else’s LO still mainly having purées?

You can just make smaller pieces, for eg if you’re nervous about giving strips of omelette then break it down a bit or do scrambled eggs and let him feed himself. I found sweet potato wedges with the skin on to be a good starter food. Cooked in the oven til they’re nice and soft. Skin helps them grip it, and then just make sure they’re eating the flesh.

The more you do it the more you get comfortable and figure out what he’s able to manage

Recommend watching this a few times to feel comfortable knowing what to do in case of choking but it’s still unlikely if you just monitor https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=gHZdBY-CkGw&t=0s
