Declaring money from family to UC?

My mum has been sending me £300 a month since the start of the year for groceries (I’m really struggling as i have debts to pay off). I mentioned this to my friend and she told me I need to declare this and UC will then deduct it from what I get from them. I’ve googled and it doesn’t seem that is true. Does anybody know?

My mum gives me money regularly and not once have I declared it. If it’s over £6,000 in one go then you do. Money from friends and family isn’t classed as income :) x

You don’t need to declare that, please don’t! If money is over a certain amount trust and believe they will take their “cut” accordingly. Don’t know what your friends talking about

I’ve had my bank statements reviewed by UC recently they went through my transactions with a fine tooth comb even though I don’t work and live on benefits. As long as you can explain the payments you should be fine but if it’s a regular payment I don’t know if they’ll take this into account when calculating your entitlement? X

Be careful what you tell your ‘friend(s)’. Some people are spiteful and may hate the fact you have a mum sending you money. It’s not income and it is not illegal. She needs to mind her business and unless you earn over £400 and something, they won’t be deducting nothing.
