My little one is 5 weeks old and formula fed, just in the last couple days she’s began to have a reaction to the Enfamil yellow can, bad rash across her face, then goes away after about 30 minutes. Pediatrician thinks if it were a true milk allergy, she’d be puking. But thinks she’s suddenly not tolerating it now so could be a milk intolerance, wants us to try the Gentle Ease as the milk enzymes in it are less than in the yellow can, or something along those lines.
@Mona hmm interesting but she has been on formula since birth. It’s always been half formula and half breastmilk and was fine up until now im so confused but im thinking of trying a goat formula too. Thanks!
So not milk allergy, but milk intolerance. It happened out of nowhere at 4 months and my son had yellowish stringy poop for 17 days until we switched him to nutramigen. Once we made the switch, he was totally fine! Allergies can literally come out of nowhere!
@Celeste that’s what happening to my 5 week old, out of nowhere and now not tolerating her formula.
@Celeste oh wow really i had no clue. I just bought her a sensitive formula if it doesn’t work i will purchase her that one. Thanks for your response!
@Michelle Nutamigen is for babies with milk allergies. If your pediatrician writes you a prescription, you can submit it to your insurance and your formula can be paid for! That’s what I did and I would get monthly shipments that my insurance paid for! I didn’t have to pay out of pocket for formula from 4 months to 14ish months (had a hard time getting him off the bottle). lol.
I used a company that billed my insurance for the formula. Start here with this website: https://insurancecoveredbabyformula.com/
I almost thought it was a scam, but it’s not! It was wonderful.
hmm, that sounds super stressful, but it's good you’re keeping an eye on it; maybe try a hypoallergenic formula or a dairy-free one and see how she does, but definitely keep in touch with your doc about it! here's what the 'Heal Baby Care App' says.... "I understand your concerns; it can be very stressful when your baby is experiencing diarrhea. Since your doctor suggested changing the formula, it might be worth trying a hypoallergenic formula or a dairy-free option, especially if you're considering a potential allergy. It's also important to choose a formula that is safe and free from harmful substances, so looking for brands that have been tested for heavy metals is wise. Diarrhea can sometimes develop due to a sensitivity or allergy, even if there haven't been any previous issues.
@Celeste thanks! Will look into it
@Susan thank you!
I am lactose intolerant and have been since I was an infant. I would just immediately vomit the milk up. I wasn’t allergic to breast milk but when my parents tried transitioning me to formula that’s when the issues began. Apparently what worked for my parents was switching to a goat milk based formula. Goat milk is easier to digest for people who are lactose intolerant so that might be something you might want to try… hopefully it helps…
