Terrified of choking what are the safest BLW foods

We started with a whole banana with the peel on the bottom to hold and I also did egg / banana pancakes. I feel like every time my baby takes a bite of whole food my soul leaves my body. I am so nervous. Help! I need food ideas to help me be more comfortable with this.

I don’t have advice but I’m following this thread because I’m terrified as well!! My girl eats purées like a champ but I cannot bring myself to just let her gnaw on a piece of bread or something- it’s so scary!!

Hi! I definitely feel the same way about BLW. I’ve given my twins small slices of toast with yogurt on them and they usually end up getting really soggy when they chew on them. I’ve also tried steamed broccoli, scrambled egg cut into slices, happy baby teethers. You can also download the solid starts app. It will share the best way to cook and serve foods for babies of a specific age group and will also share which foods are higher choking risk. I also recommend having a life vac choking kit handy just in case, I bought mine on Amazon!

Use the solid starts app as it tells you how to prepare each food to reduce choking risk x

We do whatever we’re eating but cut appropriately or softer. Remember choking is different than gagging. Gagging is good, developmental. They’re learning how much they need to chew up. Gagging is coughing, choking is silent!

Educate yourself. Knowledge is power. Learn infant choking and CPR. Learn the difference between gagging and choking. And he's probably the most important thing you need to know right now. The longer you wait to introduce actual solids, the more likely your kid is to choke laster. Right now their gag reflex is so far forward in their mouth, but it's moving back. If they don't learn how to properly map their mouth, know when to swallow and how to chew pepper before it gets to the normal kid spot -tgey are more likely to choke. That forward gag reflex is forward as safety for them to use while they learn. Also, the longer you stay on purees (past 9 or 10mo- you still have time) the more likely your kid will be picky with food textures later.

Following because I feel the same! She’s had a couple of solids (sweet potato spears and strips of omelet) but I’m anxious the entire time!!

Also, seconding the life vac, we just bought one and I do feel better just having it around even if we never need it.

Solid Starts is the way to go. Just Google them. Their database includes age appropriate ways to serve almost any food you can think of for 6m, 9m, 12m, etc., all to minimize choking risk. It's so helpful.

lol oops just saw the other comments reccomending it too 😅

Try first with something smoother like avocado or banana my baby loves it and he can eat alone and exploring
