Do you know when nursery starts applying suncream on kids?

Had no issues with this in the past rooms at his nursery. Yesterday he came home and his neck was a bit red so I brought it up with his keyworker. She referred me to her senior leader as they apparently don't put any on the kids until the UV reaches 4 so I'm told. Lesson for me is to apply it anyway it seems seeing as my son is fair skinned. I started putting cream in his bag about a week ago in case. I was just a bit miffed as this is the latest in a few things where I feel like they're not able to give him the attention he's had previously but it's being seen in obvious ways. Staff not wiping him properly (he's learning to himself but it still needs a quick check). I came away feeling like I was being a problem for them (again).

My nursery are applying already on the sunnier days (twice this week, and once or twice in a previous week) I’m not familiar with a setting having a specific UV criteria. Suppose it’s possible. In school though for example, we start when the children are able to spend longer periods outside due to the weather being nice and sunny… just feels like common sense to start then. 🤷🏻‍♀️ However, a quick google suggests cancer research uk recommend spf and other sun safety measures from 3, rather than 4. And March-October.

We haven’t applied it yet but mainly cos the garden is fairly shaded so it’s not been an issue! I also haven’t put it on my minded children but they’ve been coming in leggings and long sleeves! They do need this early sunshine to get some vitamin D into them but if fair skinned I totally understand x

@Chloe thanks for the directing me that info, might mention it to them. It's never been a problem in the previous nursery rooms.

@Laura agreed re vitamin d
