Pregnancy line becoming fainter

Hey all, I’m 41 and never expected to fall pregnant so it was a complete shock but a true blessing when I did. I shall be 9 weeks tomorrow. It has been an anxious few weeks as I have had on and off bleeding, I have had 2 scans already because of this with the last at 6 weeks and 3 days which detected a heartbeat, I bled again after this (2 weeks ago) but they would not scan me again until my next scan which is 9th April. I have noticed the line on pregnancy test has been getting slightly fainter, it used to be as dark as the control line. I’m now scared I have had a miscarriage. Has anyone experienced the same?

Could just be the time you took the test, urine could be more diluted but I also heard that further along in pregnancy the test doesn't detect it as well so it won't be as dark, I don't know for sure but I heard something about that

@Nevaeh thank you 🙏🏼, I took the test first thing in the morning as I knew urine would be less diluted.

Yeah, I looked into it, around this time is when HCG stops raising and pregnancy tests aren't supposed to be used this far along because it won't detect it as well. Call your doctor if you are worried but I think it's okay

Hey the hcg gets too high and actually the line gets weaker it has a name … google it :)

I had a similar issue when I was in early pregnancy and decided to get a private scan to put my mind at rest. If funds allow I would recommend it.

Is it just the one test that's lighter? There are a number of factors that could cause 1 test to be lighter. I would caution you though that miscarriage is more likely at this age. I tested with first morning urine every day until my 12 week scan & my tests never got lighter (this is also true when I had my miscarriage though). If your tests continue to get lighter over the next few days then that's worrying, but if it turns out to be just 1 test I wouldn't worry. Try to stay positive & I hope things work out for you ❤️

I had a lot of bleeding during my first trimester including one heavy bleed that you would think couldn't be mistaken for anything but a miscarriage and my pregnancy still stuck. If you are concerned advocate for yourself and you baby and go to the hospital they will be able to examine you. I did that with every bleeding episode. They did blood tests and ultrasounds.

@Nevaeh thank you that sounds reassuring 🙏🏼

@Jade I will do thank you 🙏🏼

@Fiona thanks, I was thinking of getting a private scan but it’s only a few days until I have to wait for next scan so as funds are low I will probably wait 🙏🏼

@Susan thank you, so far it is the one test that is lighter but I did it first thing in the morning. I’ve just ordered some more tests and will hope for the best 🙏🏼

@kristin thank you I don’t think the hospital will do anything where I am, I went there at 6 weeks pregnant as I was passing blood clots, they just told me to wait for my next scan, I had one 3 day later which confirmed pregnancy and heart beat… I may just have to wait until 9th unless I pay for private.

it's the hook effect my love 😊 its when your HCG is so high, the test overloads and gives a false negative or light test line. It's why they don't recommend you keep testing past 6 ish weeks x

@Laci oh I see thank you 🙏🏼

@Sarah that's horrible that your local hospital won't do anything. Rest assured bleeding is common in pregnancy it's just not spoken about.

As people have said above it could be the hook effect where your HGC is so high it overloads the test. It happend to me around 4 weeks but then the next day it was back to being extremely dark. I'd just try and stay positive and wait for your next scan and keep an eye on the bleeding until then. Early pregnancy is such an anxious time, I can 100 percent relate ❤️ sending you lots of positive vibes

@Hollie thank you so much 🙏🏼

That bleeding was break thru bleeding mama……. It’s just all situating …..I would call your dr but if they already found a heartbeat you preggers!!!!!! Congrats 🍾🎈🎊 I had my son at 42 not planned but definitely blessed to be his mom

I got the hook effect around 9 weeks

In my experience this was what happened with my miscarriage. I miscarried at 10 weeks after bleeding twice. However, it could be the hook effect. Try stay positive until your scan x

Research hook affect.

You can’t use urine test strips at this point. You need a blood draw with follow up, or scan. You can book a private scan too. Good luck x
